Title: Grex and Zorro4, is there enough place for both ???
Post by: Effy on December 03, 2003, 06:38:16 AM
I have got a A1200 with a nice PPC card with Bvisionm but I also have got 3 Voodoo 83+4+50 pci cards ready for Amiga use. Grex is an option, but is there enough place for my Zorro4 busboard ?? At the moment I only use a Powerflyer Z4 because I can not use the real Powerflyer together with the Bvision ... any bright advice  :-?
Do I have to remove my Zorro4 busboard to use a Grex  :-?

Sorry, I just come home from night shift and I´m dead tired and using a german keyboard that I´m not used to ... I meant that I have got a Voodoo3 + 4 + 5 ready in my sleeping room, got them from Ebay especially for the use with an Amiga with Mediator or any other pci busboard ...

If I was you I would go for the ZIV Mediator PCI expansion because that WILL fit with the ZIV board as well.

yeah that would be the best option, I doubt a Grex would fit with a Z4 board... also the Grex is a big pile of steamy poo imo ;-). Another point to make is you can use an ordinary power flyer with a Bvision, you just need to use a couple of sets of socket raisers to raise the power flyer away from the Bvision...

Any idea where they can be purchased? I had to go back to a sloooow buffered interface when I installed my Bvision :-( .

Thanks for the honest opinion. It made me decide not to go for the Grex they offer in Sweden for a very low price ...
Bivision and Powerflyer (on the motherboard) ... I did manage to get them both to work but then the Bvision was under so much pressure that I was afraid it might brake off some day, so I replaced the Powerflyer by one that I could put into the Zorro4 slot ...

I have  a powerflyer and a bvision. and they were working allright.  The problem is I think with the bision touching the powerflyer and the mem chips on the bvision getting so hot(or possibly due to the strain.  My bision now seems ####ed.  It seems to work, but then crashes the mahine on boot if u set the os to a bvision screenmode.  I found the extra height of the apadter of the z4 bsboard give u just enough height to put the bvision over the top of the powerflyer, just about, but there again this is probably what has ####ed my bvision.

i trust you installed a heatsink on the permedia2 chip and had some form of fan keeping some kind of airflow going across that and the ram? early P2's had a habit of partially unsoldering themselves if not cooled plus the chip was only rated to 80C temperature. it could reach 79.8C on the heat sink if not cooled properly. just my expirience with the cybervisionPPC....

(if i am talking crap again please ignore anything i said)
