Title: Which is your main/most used Amiga?
Post by: dougal on September 30, 2010, 06:18:09 PM
As the title says, which is your main / most used Amiga?

Mine is my A4000T, because of the Cyberstorm 060, RTG and LAN and also because it looks so damn cool!

For me it's gotta be the A1200, Commodore's best ever machine in my humble opinion... :)

A1200 Blizzard060/PPC 60Mhz/240Mhz / 256Mb Ram / 2 x 500GB HDs / 2 x DVD Burners / FASTATA MKIII / SubWay USB / Cocolino Wireless Mouse / Custom Built Audio Amp-Mixer

Currently it's a desktop A1200 but this has often changed.
I own so many accelerators for all my miggies that any is usable to a good level.
So, in the last decade, my main amiga was:
 - 2000 to 2004: A1200 in Ateo tower
 - 2004 to 2005: A2000
 - 2005 to 2007: A600
 - 2008 to 2009: Again A1200 Ateo
 - 2010: A1200 desktop
 - 2011: who knows? :-)

It's my A1200HD/CD because all my A4000Ds died. I do have a stock A500 and an A2000 with an old 68010 accelerator. I really would like to buy a new computer to run AmigaOS 4.1 on. Uh, oh - here come the - why not just run AROS or MorphOS on a Mac mini crowd. LOL!

I voted A1200 even though it is technically an A1200T 060

A well built and well thought out machine. I'm not suprised to see the 3000T on the list. In the "best Amiga" debate it has a strong case (no pun intended).

Lord Tone007, this looks like my desk right now.. I've got parts of a 3000/4000/1200 and other stuff on it.  My 3000T recently quit on me so I've been piecing some parts together to get another machine up and running.  Very cool looking 500.  Where did you get the keyboard?

Pegaus? Pegasos? I'm surprised you guys included PPCs.

Mine? A 1.25 Ghz eMac under MOS 2.5 (w/ a Powermac waiting for 2.6).

If PPC alternatives weren't available though, I'd go with a 1200 (but Amigas COST too much).

Niandias, don't worry about MorphOS users bugging you about your choice. Use whatever you want. Supporting AOS4 means another PPC user is added to the market. More users for either AOS4 or MOS is fine (software developers usually support both OS').
We both have to worry about the X86 camp (those that want X86 ports, AROS users, and the Linux fanatics). I'm surprised none of them have posted yet.

At the moment, mine is a Compaq Presario S5000CL (picked up at a garage sale for 5 bucks) running winUAE. But in times past, it was a 1000 - bought new in 86 or so, then a 2000 bought new when CBM was closing them out for $500.

Ah, well, anyone visiting my house would know right away that my A1200T is my 'baby'... Best monitor, accel., RAM, scanner, etc. out of all my miggies. My 1200T is on now, I was checking out Dougal's BBS. :hammer: Though my WarpEngine 4000 gets a lot of love too.... :) (That was always the 'family' computer....)

Mac Mini 1.5 GHz running MorphOS 2.5. Best "Amiga" ever.
Title: Re: Which is your main/most used Amiga?
Post by: kolla on September 30, 2010, 11:20:36 PM
Most used is my A3000, I got it in 1996 and used it day in and out for more than a decade. My first Amiga, an A1200 bought in 1994, was installed with Linux in 1997 and has been running that ever since. The other Amiga systems I've got have never been used for as long and as much as these two systems.

Hi,

Mine would be an A4000, one of the best, true Amiga's. MorphOS couldn't even compare.

My goodness how desperate we have become by claiming a MAC is an Amiga.

It's actually a very close race - I use an A2000, and A1000  - also use AmiKIT on a 3.10GHz Two core duo (Intel CPU) Windows machine with OS 3.5

Really it's UAE for me, my A4000 is too flaky right now.

I wish UAE, Aros and the two major PPC platforms were listed as options.  I'd like to see those results, but I suppose that's how it goes with any poll.

But a PPC system running AOS4 is an Amiga?

And what if an AROS user bought a CUSA Amiga and ran AROS on it? Would that be an Amiga?

Lighten up!

Yes your system couldn't compare because it would be MUCH slower.
And even a Mac running AOS4 (if that was possible) wouldn't be an Amiga, but that might be a good thing (performance wise).

Again, Amiga's just a name. When it comes down to performance, I'll put your 4000 up against my Mac and watch your system perform like the Stone Age prodigy it is.

This was a close call.

I'd say my A4000 in an Elbox tower (Warp Engine 68040, Mediator, Radeon 256MB, SB128, IndivisionAGA, FastATA 4000, Deneb) just pips my Minimig v1.1 (4MB & ARM) in usage at the moment.

I've still got to get around to fitting my Catweasel PCI and Emplant II cards into the A4000 before I can close the case.

+ 1

never that I'd see the day..tisk tisk:( let's call a spade a spade and agree that you have the fastest old Apple computer that can run MorphOS nicely...I'm sure most people will have no problem with that comment....

And your Sam is a 'Miggy' why? Because it run AmigaOS4? It's not even an AmigaOne, let alone an Amiga. And the Pegasos (designed  to run MorphOS) runs AOS4 fine.

You're cutting too fine a line here.

And who gets to decide? How will you compensate when CUSA releases X86 'Amigas'?

Hey, I'm not sure we shouldn't have included AROS and emulator users.

Whatever runs Amiga software.

I love the Peg II's and wish I could find one...I like AROS and applaud their progress (I actually am looking for a used AcerOne netbook to finally have my Amiga 'like' notebook!)..I have never used MorphOS but still appreciate the work many people put into developing it BUT I have despised Apple products since 1981 and hence my comments...

if old Apple hardware ran AmigaOS I'd still say the same bloody thing..so it's no shot against MorphOS at all but rather the old Apple hardware:afro:

as for my Sam..she was made brand new by ACube to specifically run AmigaOS;)

That's a close one for me, but I have to say my 4000D's and 4000 Micronik, because the last one has a CS PPC 060/200 with Cybervision.

But the A1200 is just an inch behind :)

The least one used so far is the A1000, just haven't got around it to patching it up.
Seller told me it was upgraded to 2MB, but I didn't even have a look inside, it works, that's what counts.

For the last couple of weeks, of all the physical amiga/amiga-compatible machines I have, I have to say the A1 is the one I've used most. That's principally because it has the OS4 SDK installed, whereas the A1200T doesn't...

When I had an 060 card, the most used Miggy in my collection was the A2000. But these days it's the A3000.

It does make a lot of sense... The big box Amiga's are the most expandable machines and then the A1200 is a very easily expandable machine and takes some really cheap upgrades like pcmcia network cards or compact flash readers and has built in ide and AGA.

A500 is more expensive to upgrade and you have less options, even harder and less the A600 and expensive. And the CD32 and CDTV, expansions are very rare.

The PPC systems like the SAM, Pegasus, A-ONE etc. seem popular options too although to be fair i don't really consider them to be Amiga's.
