Title: Nec multisync monitors and scan rate questions...
Post by: haywirepc on September 27, 2010, 02:46:06 PM
Synchronization Horizontal: 31.0 kHz to 60.0 kHz Automatically
Range Vertical: 56.2 Hz to 75.0 Hz Automatically
Resolutions Supported 720 x 400* VGA text Some systems may not support
Resolution based on horizontal and 640 x 480* at 60 Hz to 75 Hz all modes listed.
vertical frequencies only 800 x 600* at 56 Hz to 75 Hz
832 x 624 at 75 Hz
1024 x 768 at 60 Hz to 75 Hz .................. NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics Display cites
recommended resolution at 75 Hz for
optimal display performance

If this monitor supports these scan rates, will it work with amiga screen modes without a scandoubler, or will it crap out?

I'm hoping this will work, otherwise, I'm off to find an lcd with svideo in... I got one of those amiga to svideo adapters.

Considering that it only syncs from 31kHz up it will most definitely not work with PAL or NTSC.

Correct, most NEC Multisyncs don't do 15khz, only the very earliest ones (3D, etc) do.

All these XV17s or XV21s are pretty useless.

The NEC 1801 pivot most certainly did work with PAL and NTSC. It had BNC video inputs for that very reason and was the default monitor for the DVD Maestro authoring suite from Spruce. I know this as I sat in front of it day after day authoring DVD's. Other NECs? I couldn't tell you.
The 1801 pivot was one of the best screens I've ever had the pleasure to use and would be an ideal Amiga monitor, they are now, sadly, rather rare, as they cost an arm, a leg and a granny when they came out.

Does anyone else know any other vga multisync monitors that might work?

Otherwise, I think I will just buy an lcd tv with svideo in... I got the amiga rgb to svideo converter from amiga maniac. I wish I had bought an indivision for 1200 when they came out. That would be the perfect solution if anyone ever had any for sale.

There's really something to be said for emulation I think...

I use this thing
http://www.ambery.com/rgbcgatovgac.html
which works great.
Its not 100% perfect, but its fully usable and its cheaper than the indivision, not to mention actually available

I love amigamaniacs adapter.. and it does support NTSC and PAL.

But, if you go the TV route, you need to make sure that your LCD TV supports both formats.  Not all do...

Neither of my LCD TVs (which is OK because my wife doesn't want the Amiga on them really) sync to PAL.  They say "out of range."
