Hello Everybody....
I love to play Quake II Online with my
friends :-)
But the fun is short, so i looked for
"Servers" with ONLY Amiga Users but nu luck,
only PC-Dudes :-(
So my question, is there here a lot of people
how are interested for a Amiga/Pegasos Server ???
If yes....
I will write here my IP Addres
Waiting..................

A subject title for this post may be useful :-)
-
Uhm....does it matter what server it runs on? :-)
-
@Karlos
"A subject title for this post may be useful"
It is now :-)
@Odin
"Uhm....does it matter what server it runs on?"
Absoluty not, but i just want my Server
(or one of you gys) with ONLY Amiga users :-)
-
QUAKE 1! - I Have no Quake 2 yet.
-
@CU
"QUAKE 1! - I Have no Quake 2 yet"
To bad...
Well i could give you QII but that
would be illegal :-)
Or not.... Hmmmm :-)
-
No, i will buy Quake 2 - unless you have one for sale! :-)
-edit-
what are you trying to say?!
-
@CU
"No, i will buy Quake 2 - unless you have one for sale"
Nope sorry.
"what are you trying to say?!"
Nothing at all, just fooling around :-)
-
Quake II?
More like lets play Counter Strike an Quake 3 or even Unreal Tournament.
:-D
-
@kd7ota
Yep, i would like that to, but that kind
of games we (Amiga Users) have not :-(
-
good idea, i am game for a round of quake 2 ...
i planned on starting a amiga clan even..
sadly i dont remeber the id check commands for listing hw u play on in q2.. as the server must have this to prevent peple on 3ghz systems to join in, ie.. 60mhz vs 3ghz is abit steep :)
-
@lempkee
"good idea, i am game for a round of quake 2"
Coool... come and get it :-)
"i planned on starting a amiga clan even.."
Me to :-) but first i want to see how manny people want to join, saddly i see not a lot
of people :-(
Let me know when you are ready to play :-)
Tonight i'm there :-)
-
Hum, Team Amiga?
I wanna play Q3D...
Here are some addresses i go on...
http://mysite.freeserve.com/blobrana/cont/quake.htm (http://mysite.freeserve.com/blobrana/cont/quake.htm)
Frag you later... :-D
-
A better idea would be Gloom Deluxe! :-)
-
YOU Got to be joking!
why gloom when there is alien breed to pick...
:-D
-
Nah! Alien Breed is not as good really. Not graphic and sound wise.
-
LOL!
i think you are right about the first games in the series...
BUT...
I was meaning AB3D (TKG), which is a sure match to quake2, and even surpases it in atmosFEAR...
:-D
Anyway, count me in on the clan...
-
@blobrana
"Anyway, count me in on the clan..."
Well come and play now, we are playing now :)
-
The Adress is:
A215015.UPC-A.CHELLO.NL :)
-
No, i will buy Quake 2 - unless you have one for sale!
-edit-
what are you trying to say?!
If it's Hyperion's QII you guys are talking about, then it's perfectly legal to pass copies of it on, as it's a GPL'd product (IIRC).
-
I'm a real Q2 Killer player when I play it on F$#^&*^ Win Systems, but when comes PPC time I always die... :-x
-
Well I had a go at A215015.UPC-A.CHELLO.NL tonight - first time I've ever played a network game! But as my ping times were about 300 (56k modem) and everybody else's were about 12, I never saw them coming, and was always dead within seconds :-(
-
> If it's Hyperion's QII you guys are talking about, then it's perfectly legal to pass copies of it on,

I'm not sure on that- I think Hyperion licensed the code from iD software, so it is a commercial release, and can't be copied- you'd have to check.
If someone releases a GPLed version of their code- it doesn't necessarily mean that all versions of their code come under that license.
-
ants: correct , it will Be PIRACY if you copy/share Hyperion quake 2.
-
oh and obviously someone here is not uptodate , Quake 2 even has a serial code so how on earth can you say its legal to copy it?????
weird that they put a serial code on a free game.
-
Actually.. it's quite simple.. This way they can get money of GPL:ed product.
In the end.. Quake II engine code is released as a GPL but those datafiles are not. So it's not legal to copy them around.
-
@Ants
The source code is GPL'd, the game itself is not. Simple difference.
-
@Red_Melons
"I never saw them coming, and was always dead within seconds"
Come tonight again and we will spare you :-)
Maybe buy a faster modem ?!?! :-)
-
@vince_6
"I'm a real Q2 Killer player when I play it on F$#^&*^ Win Systems, but when comes PPC time I always die..."
Well let's see if that's true, come tonight on
A215015.UPC-A.CHELLO.NL around 18.00 :-)
-
Neither are the Q2 GUI and the Documentation and the Installer GPL which are also found on the Quake 2 CD...
Steffen
-
I still say Quake 1 or Gloom DX would be a better bet. Until i get me Quake 2 :-)
-
@CU_AMIGA
Well...
Get it as soon as possible :-)
-
Hello Again....
Well so far i have standard 6 people
how plays Quake 2 on my server now,
not much i know :-)
But where are the rest ?!?!
-
well we need a server thats online 24/7 :D
cheers
-
I tried to get on a while ago but I guess the servers now closed :(
-
@lempkee
Yeah, i know, you could be the server :-)
@Ryu
I try to connect it as soon as possible when
i am home from work :-)
-
How about a game of HBMonopoly? :-)
-
@CU_AMIGA
"How about a game of HBMonopoly?"
No thanks :-)
BTW 15 Minutes to go (20.00 PM)
starting.........QUAKE SERVER :_)
-
Hee, it's about time we had an arena for Amiga and MOS fanatics to beat each other up in- we should have done this years ago, it would have saved all the grief on Amiga.org and ANN lol ;-)
-
@Ants
Exactly :-)
BTW Where are you on QII ??? :-)
-
New Host Name For Quake2 Server:
amiga-quake2.kicks-ass.org
:-)
-
@ Sphinx_Ra
"Maybe buy a faster modem ?!?! "
I have a 56k modem - is it possible to play Quake on-line without broadband? How did players manage way back in the good old 90's?
-
@red-melons
"is it possible to play Quake on-line without broadband"
I have totally no idea :-(
But you have playing right ?
-
"is it possible to play Quake on-line without broadband"
"I have totally no idea
But you have playing right ?"
No, not really :-( As you know, I have managed to connect to the server and walk around a bit - but everybody else is so fast that I can't really play - my ping times are about 20x everybody else's. I was just wondering if there was some 'trick' to get around this without paying £30 per month for broadband just to play Quake2 ;-)

If your in the UK and within range (6KM max) from your nearest telephone exchange that has been upgraded for ADSL, then i think you will find its cheaper than 30 UKP, around 20 to 22 UKP p/m is quite common, you may find it even cheaper though depending on ISP.
Be carefull as some charge extra for connection & equipment.
You should check out ADSLGuide (http://www.adslguide.org/) it pretty much covers all the info you will ever need about ADSL in the UK and also includes an ADSL checker to see if you can actualy get it in your area. if not there is always cable which i can't get :/
Might join you guys during the week when i get Q2... if the server is still up. I've never played this game so go easy :-)
-
redmelons:sorry for killing u so much ;( , anyway how all managed to play in the late 90s , easy...they used ISDN or simmilar or minimum 56k , its fully possible but make sure you have selected 56k in the MENU in quake2 , if thats on broadband then u will have problems seeing us due to packet size of the files u recive...
also so sphinx is a tad slow so when there is like 6 people playing u will get a lag, and a lag means.. you will see an icon in the top left corner and u wont be able to move for a little or longer period of time...
other than that, we might need to run some practice runs when u join us so we could actually test if its a problem or not, let me know when u wanna play ....oh and tell sphinx so he can have the server online :D
cheers
-
@lempkee
"redmelons:sorry for killing u so much"
Well he is not the only one,
I know the feeling to :-)
