We all thought that the Amiga story would make a good film, well it looks like its coming! Cant wait!
-
Had a quick look at the trailer, look like it could be real good... :)
-
hey awesome. Will definately look forward to that
-
Love the trailer for the movie, it's fantastic! We can't wait till this comes out.
-
Ditto! Looks fantastic. Can't wait!
-
looking forward too it

**bump**

What happened to the youtube video? It says it is Private when I try to access it.
-
Sorry I can't see the trailer with your direct link, YouTube ask me password and Username
-
Getting the same error "This video is private". Rats, would've liked to see it. The website looks good!
-
Maybe they are updating it?
-
That's weird...
I just looked at it a few hours ago..
So, it WAS working. ;-)
Uh oh, maybe I broke it...

Should have grabbed it when I could. I was just lazy in not downloading it....

Same here; ???
-
It's working fine here.
-
Ah-ha. If clicking on the link doesn't work, try copy+paste. ;-)
-
Yay! It's working again! :)
-
Keeps coming up private no matter what.
-
I tried to repost the link on my facebook, to share with friends there, and it came back with the same "This video is private" error. Whatever privacy setting they've used when they uploaded this video, I really wish they'd undo it. I'm sure there's a "good reason", but frankly it's just annoying. :-/
-
I snagged it & reposted it. This should work:

Audio levels are atrocious! Somebody needs to either reduce the loudness of the background music or increase the loudness of the voiceovers!
-
Sounded fine to me but why is x1000 in the trailer, x1000 has frak all to do with Amiga hardware at all.....not even the spirit of it (nothing does since CD32/1200/4000 were on sale).
Bill Herd got old :)
-
Thanks

*Bump*
-
Awesome!
-
Great to see the X1000 in there after all it DOES carry the spirit of the operating system which made it so successful back in the day.
-
The Spirit of overpriced, underpowered, trailing edge technology....
-
Certainly overpriced* (for now), but certainly not underpowered. Tell me Persia what exactly the average user uses their computer for these days and what do you use yours for?
*How exactly is a company with limited funds able to go on and make better things and re-invest without actually making a profit? Pray tell.
-
I know several people that use older PCs. Not all because they can't afford a newer one. They just find that the computer they have does what they want.
My uncle has an almost 10-12 year old laptop running Windows 2000. He just needs to surf the web and email. Up til last year, my mother had an 8 year old laptop. If you don't play the latest graphics demanding games or view video, you don't need anything made in the last 4 or 5 years. Plenty of people out there are still happliy chugging along on 1.x Ghz computers. Sometimes even less than that. For alot of people, "if it still does what I want, why upgrade. It works! "
Oh, I've also seen a few and heard of people around here that use even older computers.

QUICK, LETS DERAIL ANOTHER THREAD BY BITCHING ABOUT THE X1000!

A buddy of mine is still running windows 2000. His PC is pretty new, but other than Wesnoth and basic web browsing he doesn't do much on it, so he never felt a need to upgrade.

If your prices are so high that few if any people are interested in buying, how much profit are you going to make?

you are totally right. Nobody ever brought that up on amiga.org before. I am so glad you told us all for the first time ever

Lets please keep this thread on topic about the fantastic new documentary Viva Amiga.

I do video editing, 3D rendering, a few other resource intensive tasks, I like to think that I get all eight of the cores in my main machine a little warm...
But you are right, there's really not that much to do on AmigaOS, so the need for power isn't really there.
Compare 1985 and the '80s in general with today. Amigas were arguable at at about the same power level as PCs and Macs and were cheaper than Macs and name brand PCs. There was modern software available, and things like lightwave and video toaster which you couldn't do on a PC/Mac. When you bought an Amiga you bought state of the art. Part of the flakiness of AmigaOS was excusable because it was pushing the hardware and software beyond the breaking point and there were no guardrails.
Today the X1000 is a little better spec'ed than a netbook, there's no software available that I can't run faster or better on a Mac or PC. Price/Performance wise they make Apple Store look like Tescos... Nothing is state of the art, the world is talking eSata and USB 3.0, AmigaOS hasn't even nailed down USB 2.0 yet. XMOS? For USD 100 I can stick a USB board in a PC and have all the tools to actually make it work available to me. The X1000 does not in any way, shape or form represent the spirit of the original Amiga.
Certainly overpriced* (for now), but certainly not underpowered. Tell me Persia what exactly the average user uses their computer for these days and what do you use yours for?

Oops, sorry, please disregard the post (#36) above....
I moved it to it's own place.....

Nope, its an important film everyone should see. Its been a long time coming and finally someone is making it. Thanks Zach, Michael, David & Zoe for all your hard work on this film.

Bloody zealots.

I agree with keep bumping this thread as I cant wait for this!
Any one know who in it, how long it is and when/where will it be available to watch.

History is written by the victors. So it's good that this story is being told. Now whenever anyone looks up classic comuters of the history of computers on google the Amiga will come up as it will have good video content from this film. If history was left to mainstream media there would be no mention of the contribution this technology added to the industry.

If it mentions AROS and MorphOS, I am good with it mentioning OS4. If it neglects these, it would be a shame.
-
BTW, does anyone know the maker of this? If so, PLEASE tell them to include CC (Closed caption). I will purchase it if the price is reasonable and it has CC.
-
Of course, we have to remember we are just seeing a tiny clip.
It's possible (likely??) that the mention of the X1000 is just a little blurb at the end showing that it's still going in some way... (With a catchy kual sounding name)
Yes, they could include other options (AROS/MorphOS, etc), but if I went to the average person and said they still make an X1000 computer that runs a new AmigaOS, they will probably say something like "Wow.. Neat.."
If I tell that same person you can still get a machine and run MorphOS, they will go, "Um.. what's that?"..
It would require more explanation. If you're doing a video and looking for a quick little "it's not quite dead" bit, X1000 (kual sounding and reminiscent of Amiga 1000) and AmigaOS is much nicer.....
Now, if you're documenting the CURRENT Amiga situation as completely as possible, then you need to include the others..
But for a historical look at the Amiga, maybe not so much..

Hi,
Only Amiga made it happen.
But
Amiga received no credit.
remember
Only MAC makes it possible
and
Windows makes it happen.

Yeah, it's nice and all, but even the clip posted needs more editing. I think it's better we just let them do their work and finish it before we start doing critiques. I fail to see what purpose discussing it more than a year before it's finished has.
-
I made a mention on the YT comments and I hope they take it to heart - "Before Mac OS" is way...WAY wrong. MacOS was in development from '79 onward, and the Macintosh itself predates the Amiga by nearly a year.
I mean, I like the Amiga and all, but getcherfactstrait! :)

They said before Mac OS X, which is totally different than the Mac OS your thinking of. Amiga does predate Mac OS X by a long while.

Yep Amiga was five years dead before OS X came along....

In spite of which, it was still more revolutionary than OSX was on it's release or probably ever will be, for that matter...

Any one seen "King of Kong" ? Your film will need humor...
-
Yep Amiga was five years dead before OS X came along....
Yes, but OS X is just repackaged Mach (with display PS instead of X11), which is a flavor of Unix, which dates from ... you know the story.
One of the exciting things about the Amiga, as Carl Sassenrath has stated, was the complete break with *nix tradition and philosophy. As I was using unix on workstations at the time , I agreed, and still do, even though I have to type this on one of those OS XMach thingies.

Hey guys!
I have been contacted by Zach (the original creator of this video) and asked to post a link to his authorized, updated version of the trailer. As I was just re-posting it because of all the difficulty people had viewing the previously posted link, I'd gladly like to redirect anyone interested in watching this to his proper site:

They fixed the graphics at the end so you can see the "X" in "Before Mac OS X" much more clearly :D
