Oh dear... I was looking round the net to find out how someone can use the Commodore name. I think I've made a boo boo :(
I came across a site where you could purchase Domain names and now after paying the princely sum of £17.61. I now seem to be the proud owner of CommodoreScotland.com :)
I now seem to have a website of some sort called CommodoreScotland.com and haven't got a clue about what the f**k to do do with it. :(
Anybody any idea what on earth I've just done, or am I going to discover that my bank account is going to be empty this time tommorow... :(
Don't have a clue about setting up a web site but I'm now wondering if it's all legal or am I heading for a law suit from whomever legally owns the commodore name.
Think Id better take some more of my medication now, cos right now I'm starting to get a bit twitchy... :nervous:
HEEELPP....
-
Maybe use it as a recruiting site for the Royal Navy.
-
No problem. Go to your local big-box computer store, buy some PCs, print some C= labels, and you're in business.
-
Stand your ground! Claim it's your birthright! Challenge all comers!

How about a blog about the good ole' Commodore Amiga?
Get a Wordpress or Typepad account (They're FREE, as in beer) and have the name point to the URL for your blog?
Just remember to post stuff now and again.

You got ripped off ;-)

You got ripped off ;-)
LOL, even in Ireland we don't pay that much to an Irish company for a domain... I think the last one I bought I paid €15 for.
But the blog account is a good idea, or start a user group in Scotland and use it as their website. Or, find an existing usergroup and donate it to them - I'm sure they'd appreciate it :)
-
There are loads of tools & stuff in the account for setting up a web page, advertising etc... but its gonna take me some time to figure it out.
Wonder if I could make it a free for all for everyone to comment on the whole sad Commodore story and to vent their views on all things commodore... :)

Think I'll give that a try... :) be back in few minutes and let you know... :)
This could be the start of a new hobby... :)
-
At least you got a dot COM, C=USA is trying to operate from a dot NET....
-
Seem to be spoilt for choice on the Amiga front... :)
This is starting to eat into my pc funds, that I asked about in another thread... :)
-
You could just redirect all traffic to the domain to amiga.org ;-)
edit:
There are a lot of parties that register domains for you... several I know do it for €6 / annually.
-
I think you should sell Commodore Tablets and call then cPads. It won't be hard to set up a website of products. Just do a Google Image search for "Tablet" and copy and paste the results to you website (don't forget to erase any copyright notices) ;)
-
You should also buy AmigaScotland.com, you never know :)
I would like to buy "commodorefrance.com" or "commodorefrance.fr" (remember Georges FORNAY, now at SONY).
-
Here are some more ideas that are available:
commodorepc.com
amigastickers.com
rebrandedpcs.com

Is that a Domain name ? and can I buy it !!! :)
-
Franko, seems like YOU'RE really enjoying your new hobby :)
(the capitals are for those nitpicking individuals...)
-
Hello, if we all buy Amiga with our town attached to the end of the Amiga name we could set up a new trend.
I live in Reading so AmigaReading.com would be mine for only £20.00 for 2 years.

-
I think I'm enjoying it... not sure yet as I can't quite figure what do with the ruddy thing... :)
-
LOL great story.. I bought a domain by mistake... didn't think that was possible.
You can probably get a refund if you purchased it in the last 30 days... but if you actually want to do something with it you will need to buy web space. \o/
-
I have an E-Mail address that's amigafly@something.something.... And it was/is free!
-
Yeah knowing how to design a web site and what you want to do with it are always good things to know before buying...
-
oh alrighty then l must buy commodore NZ
ceo actungbaby
l get charles barkley and his crazy song and wear eye patch and sailers outfit

mabye a patriot on one shoulder mmm maybe bit over board
-
your be the envy of all your country u better build a castle and moat and draw bridge
then pour molten floppy disk to keep the barbian pc users at bay
-
hey Mobby
When we refer to FREE as in beer in reference to the old amiga motheroboard jumper, it means NOT FREE.. so incorrect usage!
@ OP
Congrats... u can put a pic of yourself and call yourself CTO of Scotland Commodore inc!
-
Now you just need to buy the Amiga name, put up a website with random pictures from the internet, promising a new era for the Commodore in Scotland, and you're ready to go :)
If you know something in webdesign you could even appear to be more serious than CBM USA ;)
-
IF it's not Scottish it's crap!

Sad, but true. lol :roflmao:
I do see that http://www.commodoreusa.com seems to be parked atm or for sale. Perhaps buy that one next time... and re-direct to trashcan.com or something.
-
if you OWN the domain you can do whatever you want with it.
If your "renting the domain" then I would ignore it
-
 Whoo hoo... I've actually managed to do something on the ruddy thing...
Ok it's not much but I'm new to all this interweb-net-thingy stuff, it's taken me nearly two day's to figure out how to make it appear... :(
http://www.commodorescotland.com/
might be a wee while before I can figure out what to do next, but it's a start...
move over CommodoreUSA, the CommodoreScotland Haggis is coming...
:roflmao:
-
Wee!
-
I knew things get around fast on the net, but it seems everything that you type suddenly appears in all sorts of strange places...
Found these at a site I'd never even been to before stuck between two news items about a major fire that happened where I live...
and even weirder this stuck between a story about battery hens & Susan Boyle...
http://www.boggin.co.uk/Scottish%20Life/West_Lothian.php
Just realised how sad the town is where I live when something I have typed here becomes news... no wonder we drink a lot here... now pash me ra whisky... hic... :drink::drink::drink::insane:

You should announce new products like the Haggis 1000 and the BlackPudding 64!
-
You should announce new products like the Haggis 1000 and the BlackPudding 64!
Not forgetting the BuckfastPPC...
-
Indeed,
Or you could maybe announce products like:
Tarmac 4000
The Postage Stamp 500
The TV 1200
The Radar 32
In fact, just take any of the following and add "32", "500", "600", "1000" etc...
Logarithms, Electromagnetism, the decimal point, fingerprinting, ultrasound scanning, MRI scanning, the hypodermic needle, electrocardiography, Penicillin, the refrigerator, the flushing toilet,
... It's not just haggis that we Scots invented!
And Buckfast is from Cornwall, so it doesn't count!

Give me haggis or give me something else!

I've been trying to work out how I could make all the software and source code I've written over the years available to anyone who want's to use it.
The only method I've found so far is an online data storage site called MediaFire. I've added a links page onto the site for folk to download for free anything I put on it. However when I try to download some of the sample WHDLoad slave files I've put up, here on my imac they download but with the extension .txt added to them.
Was wondering if anyone knows of a better online data storage site or if there is a way to fix this. I don't fancy paying MediaFire the money their asking to go advert free if the downloads don't work properly.
Anyone got any advice or ideas, it would be greatly appreciated... :)
Cheers :drink:

IIRC there was an Amiga factory in Scotland. Think it made A1200s.
You should get a picture of the factory and put it on your page.
-
Hi,
@ Franko,
Better have another jolt of that Irish whiskey. You paid way to much.

IRISH WHISKEY... blasphemour...
There is only one true WHISKY and that is SCOTTISH... :)
All those fakes & imitations need to have an E in the word. True connoisseurs of the water of life already know this... :)
But you were right... I was robbed... :(

Reckon I may be overfeeding them though, some days I can have up to 30 of the greedy little gits in the back garden waiting to be fed... :)
I'll need to upload some more, there's still some quite interesting & amusing one's I've captured... :)

Having just bought quite a few hours ago the domain AmigaUK.com from a company called JustHost.com. It turns out this company aren't too quick to respond on the 24/7 help site when you ask about canceling your account. :(
They took my money quick enough & responded very quickly to all my questions about how the frig I could use their site to set up AmigaUK.com. When I discovered however that you need to be proficient in HTML and their site was not all that it claimed to be and mentioned the words cancellation and refund, not a dickie bird out of them.
I'm bombarding them at this very moment with as many emails as I can type, word of warning, if you want to set up a web site avoid JustHost.com at all costs, there supposed to be the no 1 hosting company right now, but they're nothing but a bunch of money grabbing shysters...

I think they have to give you a cooling off period by law. Good luck.
