Title: Apollo 1240 Memory

What kind of memory does my Apollo 1240 use? I know it's a 72 pin SIMM, but i'd like to get a 32MB SIMM installed..

5v (only really a problem when you get large SIMMS, some were 3.3v), single-sided, 70ns (or better), fast page mode. EDO may work but IIRC it's very hit and miss.

I don't think the apollo can handle anything bigger than 64MB either.

Probably not as it looks like it's double-sided (It's described as 16 chips, looks like 8 to a side if the image is correct). I'm not sure about later versions of the card, but my first Apollo 1240 (very old, socketed EPROM) definitely couldn't take double sided memory as the SIMM socket was flat.  As it was, the 040 pins on the underside were uncomfortably close to the SIMM once installed.

However, the memory chips do look fairly low-profile, you might get away with it. I'm not totally sure if there are any electrical differences too; I seem to recall an old PC motherboard I had once would only recognise one side of a double sided stick.

I have several Apollo 1240 and one 1260 and they all work fine with both FPM and EDO, even double-sided. Limit is 32 MB if one SIMM socket is soldered.
It is possible to solder another SIMM socket for another 32 MB (usually need towering after that because it would be at 90°).

Just get any 32 MB 72 pins SIMM (low profil is better though for desktop use).
Set jumpers according to the SIMM access speed.
