Hi i have just installed os 3.9 on my amiga 1200 with a lot of help from my dear friend Franko,and i am thrilled to bits all is working very well except i want to play my mp3 discs, the music player /amp opens up and reads the mp3 disc but no sound even thou its playing the tracks, is this because there is no mp3 codec in os 3.9 and i have to go find one?

Standard audio CD? You'd need to hook speakers up to the audio output of the CD drive.
(Quite often people refer to audio CDs they've burned from MP3s as "MP3 CDs" when they are no longer MP3s, but plain old audio format. If this isn't the case, I apologize for the assumption.)
I've never had to install anything additional for OS3.9 to play MP3 files.

@tone007
MrMoonlight is trying to play mp3 files that he has stored on some cd's, Ive helped him set up his HD & CD Drive & OS3.9 but for some reason he can't get any sound via AHI/Paula when he try's to play them, can you give him any advice/help here... :) (he's using an 30+fpu board I believe)

If they're definitely MP3 files (and not CD audio tracks,) I can't say I've seen that problem even with a clean install of OS3.9.
Can the MP3 files be browsed to in Workbench and maybe one copied over to the HD for a test?
'030 might need a bit of tweaking in general to get them to play smoothly (lowering quality settings and picking mono mode in AmigaAMP,) but even so they should be making some kind of noise from the start.

Has he got the right audio channel selected in AHI preferences? Or in the software he is trying to use?
Also, decide which quality he wants to select in AHI.
And if you think that's all setup properly try some other mp3 software...
worse case scenario, for petesake get a sound card ;-)

Try Prayer 2. It works like a dream with my OS 3.9 setup.

In audio prefs, select 14bit Paula.

Have you got any decoder HW? What CPU have you got?
If you've only got Paula, check your Amplifier settings to make sure it's NOT using AHI and then the quality is set to low. After a bit of playing around I got my 030 to play MP3's at a reasonable quality (just don't expect to be multitasking while you're doing it). An 060 on the other hand can play MP3's quite well on a Paula only machine.
