Title: How do you Repair a Cut Trace?

Hey guys

Hows it going. I'm doing a repair/upgrade for a friend with an amiga 2000. Its an old rev 4.x board and used to have a dkb megachip. He took it out and replaced it with a regular agnus. The machine wont boot now because he had to cut a couple of traces between some solder pads. How do I fix these cut traces? Can i just hit it with a drop of solder? please help.

Drop of solder usually does it for little nicks.

I agree with Tone.

For gaps which are a bit larger, I like to tin both ends of the broken trace. Then bridge the gap using a small gauge wire (such as #26, #28 or #30) from which the insulation has been removed.

For really large gaps or jumper wires, I use the same small gauge wire except I leave the insulation on and tack the wire down in several places with some super glue. (The gel type works best.) I then solder the ends.

you can also trace the trace back and connect a jumper between what it connects. for example if it connects to pin two of some chip and pin 8 of another just connect a wire between those two pins.

this isn't always easy or possible but if it is it can be much easier than solder.

...but if you want it to actually work reliably, even after such a jumper you should solder the ends.

if you are a very good you can also replace/fix damage tracks including missing pads,there`s a repair kit for this.

or try a party trick. lift a track including pad from a old PCB.

in some cases you will not even see the repaired PCB.

Thanks for the tips guys.. i'm no solder tech but i'll try a dab of solder and she if she starts up :)
