Title: Odd Question: Greyscale Image Editor
Post by: Argo on August 31, 2010, 07:17:58 PM
Okay, This might be a tad odd thing to ask about.
I'm getting into map making for various games. The standard for the elevation maps or heightmaps for the land is universally 16bit greyscale PNG. From my searching far and wide on the Internet, this seems to be the bane of map makers. Unless that is, you can afford Photoshop. There are some other programs, even open source, but they may not fully support the PNG standard and are very basic in features.
In my searching, I came across a list on the LibPNG website of known programs that use LibPNG in some way. Including a handful of Amiga programs. Only most are not available any more.
So, what I want to know is if there are any current image/photo editors for the Amiga, Amiga OS or AROS for me, that have this feature?

Don't think it's quite what your looking for but when it comes to creating a map for a large game your playing, I always use PageStream (the DTP progy) for creating maps of games. :)

ImageFX has a true grayscale option. Don't know about the modernity of its PNGs, though.

Amigas were the first computers to support PNG back in 1995. I think 16bit grayscale has been in the standard since the beginning.
