News from DavidAE via amigaworld.net
The multi-track audio recording and editing software Audio Evolution 4 is now available for MorphOS! With almost identical features to the AmigaOS4 and AROS version, it allows non-linear and non-destructive editing of 16-bit audio, real-time effect processing, automation, multi-track playback and much more. Visit the Audio Evolution website (http://www.audio-evolution.com/) for more information, download the demo (http://www.audio-evolution.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=34&Itemid=25) or buy it now (http://www.audio-evolution.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=21&Itemid=19) for only 49 euro!
Many thanks go out to the MorphOS developer team who helped me out tremendously with getting my hardware up and running and solving software issues!

Way to go Dave!
Why haven't you posted this on MorphZone yet?
-
MIDI support you say?!?
Ordering!
-
Where is MIDI Support? and what controllers are supported..
-
Remember, Audio Evolution 4 is available for MorphOS, AmigaOS4, and AROS.
And Audio Evolution 3 is still available for Classic Amigas.

What is the licensing scheme? I have AE3 for Classic, but would like to use AE4 with my MorphOS MacMini -- is there a concurrent license or will I purchase a new copy? As well, I am curious to know what MIDI interfaces are available for the MacMini to work with Audio Evolution.
-
Any usb device that is usb midi compliant in hardware, I suppose?

You might want to contact Davey directly, but yes I'd imagine he'd want you to purchase a new copy. Different hardware, new software port, it would only be fair.
I don't know what USB devices he's tested on his computer. I believe the MorphOS developers helped set him up with a Powermac (so he's one up on the rest of the MorphOS community since support for that hasn't been released yet).
Still, any USB device that works on his machine ought to work on your Mac Mini.

This was my assumption, but you never know. Thank you.

How is it for the classic Amiga?
As for USB, I'm going to try this:

@LoadWB
AE3 does not use any licensing scheme. Although there used to be an upgrade price when AE4 was sold by Computer City for 149 euro, the 100 euro drop in price also means that there is no special upgrading pricing from AE3 to AE4 anymore. Frankly, AE3 was also released around 10+ years ago I think, so I would call that fair.
Re: MIDI support
Please keep in mind that AE4 for OS4/AROS/MorphOS is not the same as AE5 for Windows/OSX. This means that the features you find on the main page of the Audio Evolution website are for AE5. AE4 is audio recording only and can only sync the start of playback to MIDI through CAMD, although this has not been tested under MorphOS.
I hope this explains a bit. Feel free to ask any more questions you may have.

So which one of these files should I be using with MorphOS?

Also, should I keep my hopes up that the MorphOS port will eventually be as good if not surpass the features of the Windows port?

Well, the first link contains the 68k CAMD library which may work.
http://www.meta-morphos.org/download.php?op=mydown&did=469 contains an archive which includes a MorphOS version of CAMD, but I'm told (IIRC) it can be unstable.
I am curious though what you are going to connect to it. Do you have an external MIDI sequencer or controller?

It will never surpass it, simply because the Windows and OSX port will always be the main branch of development. But as to hopes, I wouldn't count on it unless wxWidgets gets ported to MorphOS.
-
Well let's hope for a widgets port then. Also I hope that the CAMD works out on MorphOS (haven't had a chance to test it yet).
As for what I intend to do, I'd like to use it to control Messiah on the Commodore 64, and possible CynthCart for my Atari 2600. Perhaps OctaMED on one of my Amiga's too...
...at least that's my dream. Haven't even had time to play with the software much as of yet, I just registered it, but now need to get the time to experiment.

I tried to load WAV files, it said it could not load the AIFF file. I congerted my WAV files to IFF in Goldwave under Windows. Again Audio Evolution said it could not load the AIFF file.
What am I doing wrong?
-
No one?
EDIT: I see now that AIFF is not the same as IFF. Though I'm not sure why I can't load wav files as the docs say it will be auto converted. Anyhow I'm going to try to convert a wav to aiff and go from there. Any good software for MorphOS to do this?

Good, old and trusty SoX (http://morphos-files.net/find.php?find=sox). You can also try Zormanita (http://teleinfo.pb.edu.pl/krashan/u/zormanita-0.1.lha), which is easier to use, but early beta.
-
I wish the morphOS port of SOX had a gui
Thankx!!

AE4 can only convert 16-bit PCM wav files to AIFF.

Why not use Reggae for sample import in MorphOS version? With a few lines of code you have support for 20 or so formats (WAVE 8 to 32 bits, WAVE floating point, AIFF with any bit width, AIFC 'sowt', WAVE with A-law/u-law quantization, IMA ADPCM, MS ADPCM, 8SVX, 16SV and even MP3..., many of conversions are AltiVec accelerated). Anyway Zormanita can convert them all to 16-bit PCM AIFF :-).
