Title: A500 Kickstart 2.04 question
Post by: spaceman88 on August 23, 2010, 03:35:44 PM
Hi,
I know the 2.04 chip is supposed to have a jumper between pins 1 and 31 in a Rev. 5 motherboard, but my Rev. 5 has been modified to have 1 Meg CHIP RAM. Does that make it a Rev. 6? I took the 2.04 from an A2000 added a jumper and put it in my 500 - black screen, removed the jumper - black screen, returned the 1.3 chip - 500 works fine. Put the 2.04 back in the 2000 - saw the kickstart screen for a second then - you guessed it- black screen. Can you kill a kickstart chip by having/ not having a jumper?
Thanks, Len

From my experience, putting an unmodified Kick 2.04 into an unmodified A500 results in a red screen and flashing power LED, but no damage is done to the chip or the motherboard.

I doubt it, but you might be able to do it if you connected the jumper to the wrong pins or caused a short between two pins.

More likely is that you bent a pin and didn't notice it and now it's not making contact.
