It's beginning to look like the '80s in the Tablet Wars, iOS, Android, WebOS, ChromeOS, Ubuntu Linux, even a long shot with Windows 7 (with UI Centric's Macallan). Anyone think that the tablet wars will end the way the PC Wars ended with one OS to rule them all?

I think the tablet wars will come to an abrupt end without a distinct winner as the consumers refrain from buying tablets in numbers when they realise they have no use for such a device.

Indeed. If Apple have proven anything it's that their fad devices open the floodgates for competitors to release better, less expensive alternatives. With that said, the Compaq iPaq, the Palm, and innumerable other palmtop computing devices are nothing but curious relics of the past now. I imagine as full featured notebook prices continue to plummet to subterranean depths, the already shallow and narrow niche that tablets fill will almost completely* disappear.
*=the iPad will continue to sell to the latte drinker/soccer mom "class", of course.

It is nice to see Windows coming in dead last in something for once!. They have finally come too the conclusion that Windows 7 is just not right for a tablet.
It's just a couch/coffee shop PC in the end. It's too big for your pocket and too underpowered to do serious multimedia work.
Come to think of it, maybe that is what every non-creative person needs?

Tablet PCs will take a chunk of the market. People who only use a pc to browse the internet on occasion will only use a tablet. There are a couple of good uses for a tablet: augmented reality, looking at patient info in a hospital. I'm sure you could think of some unique uses. You could have a augmented reality servicing manual.
Apple will probably win because of marketing. When someone thinks of a search engine they think of Google. Now when somone thinks of tablet they will think iPad.
