Title: IBM's Travelstar (are the late models still noisy?)
Post by: Jose on November 29, 2003, 08:46:10 PM
I saw some adverted has having some fluid bearings or something that made them, between other things less noisy.
I happened to just got a 20Gb one but it's not of the new ones. I can hear the engine working.
Does someone has one of the later ones (40Gb above I think) that have that feature ? Can you hear the engine? :-o  :-D
I'm paranoid about silent computing.
 8-)

I have a new 20Gb Hitatch branded Travelstar and it's the quitest HD I've ever owned.  In fact, when I installed it in my A1200 I thought it wasn't spinning up so I kept rebooting and checking connections.  Until I touched it and felt it was moving.

@adolescent, same for me with my 6Gb IBM Travelstar, it sure is a quiet drive. :-)

They're great drives noise-wise, plus if your IBM drive is within the 3 year-old window, you can get an RMA for it and Hitachi will send you a new one (manufactured this Aug) WITH a new 3 year warranty. I did that with 4 of my 40GB IBM drives. Honest, they all died... (cough)
