In a shell, type
Code: [Select]
assign easynet: <path to where the easynet install files are>

Do not try to install amitcp.  Just let EasyNet install itself and run the connection wizard

Assuming that the contents of Easynet are installed to the CF card in a drawer called EasyNet you would open an Amiga Shell and type:

Assign EasyNet: CF0:EasyNet

Then press enter.  Run the easynet install script.

An Amiga Shell is a text console where you can enter commands.

You can open an Amiga Shell by double clicking on your System partition, then double-clicking on the Utilities drawer then double click on the Amiga Shell icon

Assuming that the contents of Easynet are installed to the CF card in a drawer called EasyNet you would open an Amiga Shell and type:

Assign EasyNet: CF0:EasyNet

Then press the Enter key. Run the Easynet install script.

No the easynet cd details are not installed anywhere apart from on your transfer adapter kit cf card sitting in the pcmcia slot going nowhere ,as it wont install, it said it wants the easynet volume which is sitting in pcmcia slot on a cf card

If you dont follow the advice above, it will always ask for the volume EasyNet.

So how did the Amiga respond when inserted the Adapter/CF card with EasyNet into the Amiga and you typed into the Amiga Shell the following:

Assign EasyNet: CF0:EasyNet

And press Enter key?

What the 'assign' command does is create a temporary, make-believe volume called 'Easynet'. The installer is looking for files on that volume, and since those files are in a drawer on the CF card instead of a real volume with that name, you need to use 'assign' to create the imaginary one.

Are the contents of the CD in the root of the CF card? If so, type

Assign EasyNet: 447B-BA34:

I have never used one of these CF cards but is the AmigaOS on the CF card and is there a device in the DEVS: drawer for the CF0: Just interested how the Amiga knows to boot from the PCMCIA slot thats all. Wouldn`t have thought the CF0: would have appeared from the early boot screen. Just intrigued.

On the assign issue assuming there is a valid OS running from a defined drive..

.... that is why you are assigning easynet to volume CF0: which I assume is the PCMCIA compact flash drive. In days of old the volume would often refer to a name of a floppy so if the program used the install from say the floppy volume 'EASYNET' and you wanted to install from a new location, you simply fool the Amiga by telling it that the EASYNET volume is somewhere else. In this case the EASYNET volume is being assigned to the CF0... So what you do is open the SHELL and then type the line given. This then makes the Amiga look to the CF0: drive for the Easynet folder. The CF0: would need to be a mounted drive though hence my first question on how and when the CF0: is mounted.

If you download and run SnoopDOS from Aminet you will see the various processes taking place and that always shows where the failures occur.

Or "assign EasyNet: 447B-BA34:EasyNet" if it is a drawer on the card.
I'm also curious about what the device name that is listed for "447B-BA34:", if it isn't CF0: - the volume name "447B-BA34:" sounds like something that is formatted on a windows PC.

There is CC0: from early-startup. I don't know about CF0:, but I assume that's a drive for reading newer cards (CC0: works only with certain old cards iirc), using a dedicated device driver.

And if you double click on 447B-BA34, does it open a window, and do you see something in there called "EasyNet"? You might have to go to the window menu and select "show" -> "show all files" to make it visible, I guess.

Sorry... Hi jacking a thread here, but where is the Amiga operating system in all this and what is the mounted drive and what file system are we using if the drive is PC Formatted. Or is that what this adaptor does.

When you type in an Amiga Shell:

assign EasyNet: CF0:EasyNet

0 in CF0: is a numeral zero, not letter O

There is a space between assign and EasyNet: and also another space between EasyNet: and CF0:EasyNet, i.e

assignEasyNet:CF0:EasyNet

Thats the prompt for you to insert the Compact Flash card with EasyNet on it into the CF PCMCIA adapter inserted in the side PCMCIA slot of your Amiga.

As Kolla mentioned above, you mistyped the assign.
AssignEasyNet:447B-BA34:
