All owners of BlizzardPPC cards should definately read this!
The swedish company GGS-Data (http://www.ggsdata.se/) are selling Grex PCI 1200 cards for 495 swedish crowns which equals to around 54 EUR.
Check it out here:

Have fun! :)

cool all i need now is a blizzardPPC
-
Does anyone know what 3D performance is like with GREX and a Voodoo3
with a Blizzard PPC 210 040/25.
-
If there was somebody to sell BPPC for 54 EUR.. 8-)
-
@Rob:
I dont know the performance for that exact configuration, but as zipper tipped me there are quite some benchmarks on the AmigaSpeed (http://amigaspeed.de.vu/) website. You can compare how different graphic cards and busboards perform in Payback, Heretic, Quake 2 and Quake.

90 euro at Veaslia. But if OS4 comes out, can use use the Grex with it or only the Mediator ?? I do have got a PPC233/50 with Bvision and Zorro4. Should I kick the Z4 ?? Can I use a pci gfx card next to the 8 Mb Bvision ?? :-? I´ve got a Voodoo4 32 Mb ready for Amiga use and a Voodoo5 64 Mb that is supposed to be on its way (if I´m not screwed on Ebay) 8-)
Not an insult to the makers of Bvision, but would a Voodoo card be better than a Bvision ?? Kick the Bvision too ?? :-?
-
Just mailed that firm to ask them how much it would cost me to get such a Grex to Belgium and included the link to this topic ... :-D
-
AFAIK the is no OS4 support planned for the G-REX, that`s one reason why they are sold so cheap, on the other hand OS4 for BlizardPPC is miles away anayway.
No, with an G-Rex 1200 you could not use the BVisionPPC anymore, as the G-Rex connects to the BlizzardPPC the same way the BVisonPPC does.
Although the Voodoo 4 and 5 are found to be compatibel to the Voodoo3 driver by accident I would still advise to use a VooDoo3.
The perfomance gain of useing a Voodoo insted of the BVisionPPC with it`s dated Permedia2 is overwhelming (mainly the games aren`t going that much faster but they aren`t going any slower when you increase the resolution. Have you tried Payback in 800x600 on your BVisionPPC ? Then try ist again with a Voodoo3)

Also because the G-Rex is a POS and by installing one you risk killing your BPPC and/or your motherboard.
-
No offense, but what is POS ??

Heh, that would be "Piece Of Sh*t"

@Lemmink:
The Grex has drivers for Voodoo3, Voodoo4 and Voodoo5 alas there should be no problem for Effy to use his Voodoo4, see: Supported Grex PCI cards (http://www.vgr.com/g-rex/supportedcards.shtml#pcicards)

@Lando:
The burning-up-stuff-factor isnt possibly some power issue? Like if you connect the Grex without connecting power directly to it - it will draw too much current from the BlizzardPPC and thus also the motherboard - this resulting in frying the power supplying leads of the circuit-boards?

Unfortunately nobody has invented pills against stupidity, yet :-(

Yea 2D wise you are right. I was thinking straight away to Warp3D, `cos what is the point of a Voodoo if you don`t use it for 3D.
Yes I know the VooDoo3 Warp3D driver works with 4 and 5 as well, but is is not officially supported, so there "could" be some compatibility issues.
As for the burning up problem: whenever this occoured I am pretty sure the user was running it without connecting the Powersupply directly to the G-Rex as is is clearly stated in the manual.
Even old PC-motherboards burned up since some wires weren`t up to the job of delivering the currency powerfull garphikchips demanded, that`s why the VooDoo5 even has its own 3.5" powerconnector
-
@Lemmink:
As I understand your post - the Grex manual states that you should NOT connect power to the power-connectors on the Grex, is that correct and do they mention why?
If so, it wouldnt definately not be strange if the BlizzardPPC or the A1200 motherboard would be fried when attaching anything more current-demanding than a network card to the Grex. The BlizzardPPC isnt specified to be able to supply more current than the BlizzardVision draws and the A1200 motherboard is probably not even speced to handle the currents drawn by the BlizzardPPC alone in the first place even... it should for example be a pure wonder that an A1200 motherboard with BlizzardPPC and a BlizzardVision attached doesnt burn on the spot... it shouldt atleast not go hand in hand with the term longevity anyhow.

Ive seen A1200 mobo's fried from just the BVision/BlizzPPC (esp 040 version) and a few mobo add ons that draw power from the motherboard when people have simply used either the floppy port or the original connector to power the system.
You need to feed your 1200 mobo from both in parallel IMHO. Its kept mine from frazzling OK.
As for something like the GRex etc, that should definately be powered independently of the 1200 motherboard!
-
@Lemmink:
I am still not sure wether you meant that the Grex manual stated that you should connect the powersupply directly to the Grex or not.
Anyhow I was curious so I checked the Grex 1200 PCI manual (http://www.amiga-grex.de/daten/grex1200de.pdf) which on page 20 (step 8) states that it must be connected to the directly to the powersupply.
Did you mean that the users burned their Grex-cards by not connecting the powersupply directly to the Grex?

Any idea how much GGS charges for international shipping?

@odin:
Send the company a mail asking and then post the answer here :).

-
@ Odin
Yes that exactly how I meant it. Reading my own comment again, I see how this could easyly be misinterpreted.
Have a little mercy, for english is not my native language ;-) I`m from germany.
