So we have a thread about using classic amiga's purely.
How about the "current" options: OS4, AROS and Morph ?
Anyone use one (two/three?) of these as their primary operation system ?
Running on what ?

Most of time I am using MorphOS on my Mac mini. Mostly coding or surfing on few sites and chatting. Occasionally I am using my Windows laptop for surfing, surfing and surfing =P

how does it do with modern day web surfing ?
Anything you find yourself lacking?

i'm using morphos on pegasos as main machine.
it's laking proper flash support but youtube work very well with html5 on OWB. IRC/RDP/SSH/FTP/AVI/MP3/Emulation/Shoutcast/C/CPP/and some gfx apps and games are ok. I'm also using it as photocopier machine using my SCANdal software with epson scanner and oki14ex printer. I used to watch TV using amithlonTV but now i'm waiting for some DVB software.

There's a flash plugin for OWB (http://fabportnawak.free.fr/owb/plugins/) but it indeed is a bit on the slow side for instance with youtube (html5 mode is much nicer as you rightly point out). It also can't display the latest flash content.
-
to be honest, flash can **** off and die. Bring on HTML 5

I have always Mac mini with MorphOS on when I'm home. And in practise I do everything on it, so it's my main machine. Except some gaming on A1200. I don't use any other computers for surfing or similar, Ibrowse and OWB do the job. MPlayer for the movies... etc.

With OWB I can visit all sites I want to visit except online banking on that dull Danske Bank subsidiary.
OWB on MorphOS is quite good, always small quirks here and there (in yahoo mail text edit box is too small for example), youtube is better viewed on my laptop but I am not forced to use laptop just to view some sites. Feeling is like using Konqueror on Linux. Works most of time but not 100% perfect.

I think I don't really have a "main" machine, but at my home, the Sam440ep flex running AmigaOS4 is an equal citizen between the iMac and PC-Laptop. The classic hardware is used far less frequently, but I run Sam/AmigaOS4 almost every day.
-
I use MorphOS as a main OS on my two machines (Pegasos 2 and Efika). It includes online banking :-). If I'm forced to use Windows, I connect to my PC at work using remote desktop client on Efika (when at home) or Peg2 (when at work).
-
Yes. I use AOS4, AOS3.9 and MOS2.5 as my main OS. When really really really something doesn't work, then I use Windows XP SP3.

MorphOS 2.5 on mac mini as my main maschine for private purpose, but also for a good part of my work.
-
MorphOS is also my main OS. Pegasos2 G4 at home, mac mini when at work or elsewhere.
-
I've been using MorphOS and the Mini as my main os. Mostly for browsing and the music.
Since I started a remote job, I am forced to Ubuntu from 9 AM to 5 PM. Then MorphOS mostly, sometimes linux for linux stuff.
But it got broken and I cannot afford full repair. I'm selling my machine at the moment, but in autumn I expect AROS wifi bounty to end. So I'm planning using AROS as my main OS, until I change my job and get AmigaOS system.
This is how I see it.

I use my AmigaOS 4 on microA1 (http://hirudov.com/amiga/AmigaOS41Update1.php) as main OS. See the classic thread for more detailed information.

AROS is not usable for a daily OS, but MorphOS. I use it at home pretty regularly.

@gdanko
I can't say I agree there honestly I do use Aros as my main machine. It might be missing somethings compared to Morphos which btw runs great on the emac I just got. However I prefer my Aros machine.
-
My main machine is an AmigaOne XE G4, running the latest OS4.1.

I would love to use MorphOS or AROS as my main surfing/email OS but as a musician I have to stay up with sites like Facebook & Reverbnation to promote myself. These sites seem to always need Java & Flash for all kinds of things like picture organizers and song players.
-
I haven't tried it, but I imagine I could get away with either OS4.1 or MorphOS as a main OS, considering they probably both have a remote desktop client available.
-
No. Nothing I do other than IRC is really doable there. Its more of an enthusiast thing when I feel like it.

My experience so far has only been with AROS. I moved recently and have not moved my aros box to my new house yet. I can tell you I miss it alot.
I'll move it back over here eventually, still settling in.
At my old place, Aros box was more of less my main computer. For what I do... Text editing, graphics and most importantly music making using milkytracker... I used fast tracker II and stuck with windows 98 till something like 2007 just because I wanted fast tracker... Under dosbox, fasttracker runs reasonably well, but I weened myself of it and use milky tracker now. One thing I like is milky, which is my main program runs on windows, linux AND aros... so I can work on any box.
Audio evolution for aros is in the works. I'm hoping I can get that and learn it and no longer need a windows box for adobe audition.
If aros gets audio evolution, a very good video editing program and
gets some major bugfixing/tweaking along with improved browsing I think it would be all I ever need.
I plan on trying out morphos once I get a 1.25ghz emac. I hear its alot more stable and useful on as everyday machine.
The browsing on all 3 platforms really needs to improve before people can stop dual booting to windows, linux or osx. There is also perhaps a bit too much emphasis on how all 3 run classic apps. I like classic apps, but we need brand new or ported apps much more than just good classic app integration.
Personally, I'm just glad there is still a road forward for all of us...

Hi,
i'm using AROS as main OS. I can do now everything i need and missing bits are coming soon (so everyone can enjoy it).
What i do with AROS:
- Surfing the web (since i have no time to consume - i have no need for Flash at all ; ) )
- Working further to make Broadway a joy
- Lodepaint/Lunapaint/Amifig
- I bought a Postscript capable Printer .... printing works (we are testing a tool which converts avery file for which a Datatype exists to PS... The base for a nice Printer Gui
- Scanning works too.... the Author of SCANdal gets soon a new AresOne to work further
- Watching movies (AMC)
- Sometimes i play DukeNukem in DOSBOX (this reminds me that we miss a native version)
What i'm still missing is a native video-editor but maybe i should try some classic apps via JanusUAE?

@runequester
At home, I use my OS4 system more than anything else. I use OWB 3.29 and NetSurf 2.5 for web browsing and NotePad and Final Writer 97 for writing documents. I have not got printing working yet from my OS4 system to the EPSON Stylus CX4800. If I need to print, I save to my USB stick and print from our Windows 7 pc. Alternately, I could use Amiga Explorer between pc and OS4 system, but I have to set that up again after recent changes to our home network.

Since the release of Version 2.5 of MorphOS, I've been in exactly the opposite situation. Maybe one day AROS will be refined enough to rely on, but right now I'll stick with my eMac (and I'm looking forward to Powermac support). MorphOS is fast, stable and runs PPC Amiga programs (which you're not going to do under UAE).
Check out the number of posts, MorphOS is by far the commonly used OS for real daily use.

my main PC at home is my Samflex running AmigaOS4.1 update 2 and I'm very happy with it:afro:..I'm also hoping to find an Acer netbook for a good price to run AROS on it
-
(Not) Sorry to say it but I would rather use Haiku as my main OS. 2nd choice is MorphOS.
-
I prefer AROS over MorphOS and AmigaOS4 . I never got to chance to try the other two but I'll do that in the future when/if on of them switch to x86. I already have a desktop+laptop and AROS runs on them both so I wouldn't want a third machine.
AROS is nowdays good enough for most things but whenever I need something special that AROS lacks I just restart my PC and selects Windows. So it's not yet my main OS but it's getting real close.
