I know this has surely been discussed everywhere, but I am looking for a replacement (NiCd, actually) for my A2000 clock battery. Can someone point me to a current source?
Funny, I got this A2000 new in box in 2000. I replaced the battery then. The replacement is now leaking. In my mind it was still a new battery. But -- 10 years. Oy - time flies.

Thanks, any source for a NiCad battery? As I understand it, these actually last much longer between charges in this context and NiMH batteries can possibly do harm to the charging circuits.
Or was this incorrect information? Thanks.

Forget NiCad, they do leak sooner or later. I have a NiMH instead in my A4000.

Well,i hate to tell you this, but i have had a new varta brand NiMH that i installed in my A3000t start to leak after only 4 years.It was green and fuzzy just like the nicad's but luckily i caught it before it damaged something. I've come to the conclusion the only safe ones are the lithium watch style hack with the diode.

NiMH will be fine. Charge and discharge currents are so low it doesn't matter at all.
What does matter though is where you place the battery. While you're at it, put some cabling in between the board and the battery and put it somewhere it can't do much harm. Watch out if you're planning to store Amy vertically to avoid electrolyte dripping onto the board.

I've recently installed a lithium watch style battery onto the board of my A2000. Cost me only a few bucks for the parts ;-)
You'll need a cr2032 or similar battery, battery holder and a diode. There's instructions on Aminet.
I broke the little legs of the Amiga barrel battery and soldered them onto the new battery holder. This enabled me to solder the battery holder directly onto the motherboard rather than mounting it elsewhere.

Here I am again (14 years later), searching for a tech answer and finding that over a decade ago I asked the question and info was given leading to a solution. There needs to be a word for that -- it's happening to me more and more (usually I find traces of my earlier questions on the Usenet, though.)
At ANY rate, since this post I've twice replaced the battery in my Amiga 2000. Most recently it was a very large 3.5v pack with huge mAh rating, but it did the job (built by Batteries Plus for me).
So, again I need to replace this battery. I've got it run a distance from the mobo with cables and I just solder the new onto the cables and keep it hanging under the plastic faceplate -- leak away, battery, 'tis no matter!
SO -- Batteries Plus has in stock a small 3.6v NiCAD with 400mAh. I see the original A2000 clock battery was 3.6v NiCAD with 80mAh. I just wanted to get opinion here (it's been a while since I get into this) that I should be fine with that much higher mAH. I am sure the current large 3x1.2pack has even higher than that --- and it might be a NiMH, I can't recall for certain.

Edit: I am aware of the coin-cell motherboard mounted kits that make the swapout easier. I'm not interested in that - I've got these cables run and soldering new batteries to them every 4 years is a breeze.

I just soldered in a 3.6v NiMH with 700mAh (way more than needed obv) from Batteries Plus. I didn't want to take the whole damned system down and remove the board. (Re-setting up a flooded basement and wanted to do the battery before getting the Amiga 2000 '020 online).
Edit: At the end of a cable, battery not near mobo.
