Installed Genetic Species and after waiting FOREVER for it to all copy from Compact Flash to my hard drive, I ran it.
I honestly didn't think it would work or be even remotely playable but I was blown away. I have an 030/25, and the game runs extremely smoothly. Far better than Breathless, and it looks way better too.
Only downside is.. no sound. When I try to turn sound on in the menu, it says it can't allocate sound. Any suggestions?

I think Genetic Species requires AHI. Do you have that installed and configured correctly?

yup, motorollin nailed it. You need to have AHI installed and setup for your sound, even for native Amiga, for it to work.
You said you installed it from something other then a CD; look for a folder with other progs. in the same Dir and there should be an installer for AHI and all the other needed things for the game to run smoothly AND with sound ;).

ah, I figured AHI was only for sound cards.
I'll give that a whirl and try again.
-
well, I installed AHI and when I switch sound on in the game it brings up a requester for choosing the sound, but whichever of the 8 bit modes I choose...still no sound, other than the intro.

Do any other AHI apps work?

I dont have anything else installed that uses it I think. Any way to test ?

AmigaAMP (http://aminet.net/package/mus/play/AmigaAMP) requires AHI. If that works, then the problem is something to do with Genetic Species. If it doesn't, then it's something to do with AHI.

Do not know if this has anything to do with it but have you tried this script http://aminet.net/package/game/patch/GeneticScript
And as Motorollin says you should check whether AHI is working properly.
I was not aware that this game worked on those hardware specifications.

I used it when it was released on a 030/50 was ok.. As stated you need to use AHI with one of the paula modes, AmigaAmp is a good test.. Also for the music you need the cd and cd output coming from cdrom...

I wont be able to mess with it til tonight, but I'll try that app and we'll see if that works. Thanks for the help!
