Title: Another returns.
Post by: Iceburg on July 04, 2010, 01:22:43 PM
Hi All
Just a quick introduction. I have come back to the Amiga world after an 18 yr absence. I have had a Vic, 64, 128D, A500 and a A2000 with a Toaster. I got involved with the Amiga while I was in the USAF stationed in Bitburg, Germany. As a second weekend job I was a Sales Rep for Commodore AAFES for a year and the President of the Bitburg Commodore Users Group for 3 years.

I returned to the states and found virtually no Amiga support and ended up selling my Amiga and going PC simply for availability of hardware and software.

I have recently found myself curious about Amiga Emulation so I bought Amiga Forever 2010. It is slowly coming back to me but still have a lot to relearn.

This is a great forum! I wish this forum would have been around in 1992, I might have kept the 2000.

Well, the web as we know it didn't really exist back then, so that would have been tricky. BBS, all the way :)

Now that you mention that you are right. I only knew of 1 bbs for the Amiga back then and it was all porn pics. I really wish I had kept the 2000. I must have been insane at the time...:insane:

You could always start again with a top of the line NOS 4000T! http://www.softhut.com/cgi-bin/test/Web_store/web_store.cgi?page=catalog/hardware/amiga/a4000t.html&cart_id=3157828_17339

If i only had a spare 1200 hangin out.... I have a collection of PC's here. An old TI 99-4A, a G4 Power cube, and 4 other PC's in the X86/64 variety. I didn't hold on to any of the Commodore's cause i sold them to buy new Commodore's with the exception of the 2000.

I will be looking in the future to get another Amiga but it has to be a lot less than that. One day i will be looking and will find it but for now WinUAE is going to have to do. I am dedicating a Toshiba laptop for this so we will see how it works out. Then i can take my "Amiga" with me.

You can always find used ones in different place ;) but WinUAE will do just fine. You might also want to check out AROS (link to the Icaros Distro of it http://vmwaros.blogspot.com).

I wonder how many ex Commodore users don't know of Amiga Forever or C64 Forever?

What would be the best way to publicize them  at little cost?

The advantages of these two packages is the automatic install and plus features .

What's up with that?  I'm wondering why their NEW PRODUCTS section shows June 2006?

You can find amiga's for under the 100 dollar mark with a bit of looking and patience. Check amibay.com as well.

Welcome back! If you dedicate your laptop to just WinUAE I would recomend you to try AROS :)
If you want a cheep and competent enough Amiga I recomend you to pick up an 1200 with a cheep ramexpansion and run WHDLoad on it and your set :)

Or if you want it even cheeper, go for an A600 and download TSGui and a bunch of blanks and you will have fun :)

I will look into that but just for conversation's sake what is the advantage to it? I checked out the site and am downloading the Live version as I can boot from DVD to have a look at it. I am currently running the AmiKit and so far so good. Only issue i am having is with sound being garbled at times. This is a WinUAE issue i think but. I haven't dug into it too much yet. Thanks for a warm welcome here! I really love this site and I am trying to soak it all up. Ok all, belly up to the bar! :drink:
