I have several times bought roms on ebay and other places and have paid US$30+ for each.
What do I need to burn my own roms(aside from the image file)?
thanks

Basically a Eprom burner and Eproms that are compatible with the ROMs your going to replace. I know a few people that will do this for a nominal price.
Of course, you've got to consider the legal issues. Do you have the right to burn the ROMs?

If I own one I should be able to have a backup? (I have bent way too many pins before..)

Buying used ROMs and you should also need a EEPROM eraser :)

If you are worried about fragile ROM legs bending / breaking off, then fit a ROM socket between the ROM and the motherboard socket:

Which Amiga model(s) are you talking about?
For Amiga 1000 bootstrap ROMs, it's as simple as getting a pair of 27C256 and some Willem Programmer and splitting the 16-bit image file into two 8-bit files (32Kbytes each).
For the 16-bit single ROMs, you need some adapter to use with Willem Programmer. Never tried this so perhaps someone else can give you more information regarding this.

IT issomething I always wanted to do.. so maybe I'll buy an eprom programer to burn my own 3.9 rom
Amiga just sucks up free time :)

FYI most EPROM programmers cannot program Amiga kickstart EPROMs (27c400) without an adapter.
These days you can buy EPROMS ready programmed for almost the same price as blank ones. Just send the people the files and get the programmed chips in the post.
See eBay for such offers.

Do you know the name of that adapter for the Willem Programmer for allowing for the 40-pin 16-bit EPROMs?
