At long last, my dream has been realized, I now own PPC hardware (an eMac) to run MorphOS on, and have registered it (now hopefully I get my key by tomorrow).
I'm not sure if this is still the sales price, but $140.94 USD really ain't that bad at all!
I'm still learning my way around (which is mostly familiar), and the community has been a GREAT help, but I can say from what I've experience, this is TOTALLY worth it and the way to go for any would be "Modern Amiga" owner who can not afford the 4.x route/additional option.
In the end I have invested under $200 and am ready for the future! :)
Thankx to all those who made this happen!!!
-
Now you can leave out the emac motherboard into a nice small tower using the monitor of your choice, this can made even better imho.
Congratulations for your MorphOS key.
-
Thank you!
I had heard that it was possible to re-case an eMac, but wouldn't it require a bit of complex hacking to adapt it to an external VGA port and the like?
-
On this page you can fin the internal vga pinouts, seems easy, the hard part can be reseat the motherboard on another case.

Remember that crt monitos have high voltage even turned off, be carefull.
-
Hmm, might not be to very hard after all, though I'm not sure I'm up for the risk atm, but maybe someday down the road like when this monitor begins to fail. :)
I'm already brain storming on case ideas!
-
And in less than an hour, my Key arrives!!!!
-
Check this out!
Looks like the eMac can output to TV's as well!

Thanks for your post XDelusion. I just got my eMac yesterday in a huge box by UPS. Those suckers are HEAVY!! It was just the unit with the power cord. I connected everything but I realized that I didn't have a USB KB ARRRGGHHHH!!!! There was a time when I would throw them away because I had way to many. At least it powers on with MAC OS X.
As soon as I find a KB I am going to try MorphOS as well but I don't want to lose MAC OS X. Is there an easy to follow guide on how to dual boot? I imagine I would have to shrink the current partition with maybe gparted, unless there is a built-in partition manager in MOS? Can I still boot in MOS like a live CD before installing it (Like AROS Does)?

http://wiki.morphos-user.com/index.php/Dual-boot_MorphOS_and_MacOS_X_on_a_Mac_Mini_G4
or
http://dreamolers.binaryriot.org/dualboot.pdf
It should work the same for eMac.
I imagine I would have to shrink the current partition with maybe gparted, unless there is a built-in partition manager in MOS?
Indeed gparted it is. MorphOS does have a partition manager, but it doesn't know how to resize the HFS(+) partitions without data loss.
Can I still boot in MOS like a live CD before installing it (Like AROS Does)?
Yes, of course.
-
Piru beat me to it but this guide/Morphos introduction can be helpfull. Recently updated and has some good tidbits of info including the dual-boot guide.

Funny you should mention that... I had this thought in passing about my eMac...
Has anyone done it yet?

Looks too easy...

I would also bought MorphOS if it were a computer to use it on. And no Mac in my house.

I don't know where you live but here in USA eMacs are all over eBay. I got mine for $29 + $39S&H. I was the only one to bid on it. Honestly, I wasn't sure I was going to win it but I did and I got it in 2 days. It was amazing.
-
@Amigamia
It was not what I meant, they must pay me for a Mac to come into the house.

We won't.

And I will not buy your OS.

Oh I see! OK.

I got a friend who refuses to run Mac too. He'd rather hold out and buy as Sam, Peg or something. Honestly, I don't see the difference. I just covered the Mac logos with Amiga stickers (for now) and will do a re-painting, or re-casing job down the road.
The guts of the machine seem to be good, it's just the logos that bother me. ;)

I do not understand why there are MacOS advertising on an Amiga forum?
-
I do not understand why there are MacOS advertising on an Amiga forum?
They are not advertising MacOS, they are talking about MorphOS that happens to run on more then Apple machines.
They are neither advertising.
Edit: here is Mac OS, it has nothing to do with MorphOS.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS
Here is the supported hardware quoted from Wikipedia, not only Apple machines there.
Supported hardware
Amiga:
Amiga 1200 with BlizzardPPC accelerator card
Amiga 3000 with CyberStormPPC accelerator card
Amiga 4000 with CyberStormPPC accelerator card
Apple:
Mac mini G4
eMac
Pegasos:
Pegasos I G3
Pegasos II G3/G4
Other:
EFIKA

@halvliter'n
I do not understand why you confuse hardware with software :-)
-
I do not understand why there are MacOS advertising on an Amiga forum?
Why are you posting about it here anyway?
-
@halvliter'n
You could allways buy a EFIKA.
Other then that the post about Mac OS advertising was quite strange after you wrote in a previous post that you would want MorphOS?
-
Just ignore him I guess. It's his decision to not want a mac but he can't stop us talking about Apple hardware where MorphOS runs now.
After some struggle trying to figure out how to open the darn CD tray and boot from it (LOL, Apple newbie here!)I managed to boot the MorphOS CD on my eMac. It is SWEET!!!! LOVE IT already. Boots in no time and it really does have the Amiga Workbench feeling. Seems to be snappy and fast. Porting MorphOS to eMac was an excellent Idea IMO.
-

@Piru ME ME I may know the answer *Gaz has his hand in the air*
Is it because he's a troll? :D

Sweet :) I go the same feeling when I booted up my Mac Mini with MorphOS the first time :D Isen't it great ;)
And yes, porting to eMac was a good choice, cheep and without alot of trouble you can use a TFT monitor to it. Also the eMac is capable of using 2GB of ram :)
The Mac mini has the same FSB, Same kind of PC2700 RAM, so they are quite alike, besides the eMac has a lower CPU clockspeed then three of the Mac minis, also the later Minis can have 64 MB of DDR SDRAM wich I like alot :)
So they have quite the same preformance, I wanted a Mini because of the size.
Would tho be nice to se some benchmarks on both machines (all the PPC Minis and the 1,25GHz eMac)
Edit: According to the benchmarks here running all minis vs the 1.25GHz eMac the Minis wins on all tests but the MPEG4 Conversion Times when the eMac wins with 0.5 Seconds ;)
How come?

Okay then, MacMorphOS?
-
Okay then, MacMorphOS?
Are you blind? MorphOS DO NOT only run on Mac's -_-
You are just writing here to annoy people aren't you?
Oh, also because Windows are possible to run on x86 macs, does that make it MacWindows then?
Same goes for Linux, there are distros for a endless count of architectures and machines. Still it's not called for example BeagleLinux?
-
Okay then, MacMorphOS?
If you wish. An Apple logo doesn't bother me, my hobby isn't a religion.
-
Okay then, MacMorphOS?
Please start a new thread about this topic. I am sure people will be happy to comment it there.

Aaaa.. MorphLinux?

Aaaa.. MorphLinux?
Now your just plain stupid, and trying to bust my balls ;)
Ill leave you to yourself, do whatever you like, call it whatever you like.
Now back to topic.
I will asap buy a MorphOS license for my Mini, tho I wish I would know how long this reduced price would last since it's 5 days left for my salary to fly on my account ;)
-
So why not an x86 version then?
-

The anniversary of the 2.0 release is on June 30th, so I guess it would make sense to keep the reduced pricing at least until then.
-
So why not an x86 version then?
You should try AROS (http://www.aros.org/) on your x86, and perhaps take a break.
-
Aaaa.. MorphLinux?
Please stop trolling, there have already been reports against you.

Please do not feed the troll(s).

The same day I get my salery :O I cross my fingers!
So why not an x86 version then?
Have you ever heard of the search button?
Here is a thread just about what you asked for.

Yes, I'll stop, I might buy PegasosII and MorphOS in the future.
-
Ahhhhhh, PegasMorphOS.......

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Broccoli yet!
This kind of reminds me of a few posts back when I was complaining about how main stream OS's always rape our extra resources when they become available, I.E. if you upgrade to a faster computer with more RAM, you know damn well that the next version of Windows, Linux or what ever will eat it up.
For what ever reason, people began to heckle me and say,"oh but what about videos, or large sound files, or cache from your web browsing etc".
The irony of their heckling is the fact that if modern OS's did not waste so much ram and CPU power just to operate, then their would be more resources left over for our video, audio, and the like.
Compare OSX to MorphOS and you'll see a prime example of this.
Needless to say, as soon as my eMac arrived from Indiana, I booted it once to laugh, then formatted and installed MorphOS. :)

140$!! I just spat my tea out!!

Please excuse my ignorance, I am not trying to offend. I have a Sam 440 with 4.1 and it is nice. I also have almost every model classic Amiga. In addition I also have a Mac Mini 1.5 with 64 meg Vram and the news about MorphOS has peaked my interest. I trulely don't know much about it. Is it something I should jump on for my Mini? How similar to AmigaOS is it?
Thanks,
-Jeff

How would that offend? :)
MorphOS is essentially a NG Amiga operating system, without the name. Many people think it is far superior to the official OS. You may agree or YMMV. There is one way to find out for yourself, try out the demo version for free on your Mac Mini.
http://www.morphos-team.net/downloads.html
The demo is limited to 30 minutes unrestricted, before it slows down. You can reboot and use it again for 30 minutes.
-
Cool, Thanks! Downloading now.
-
I too, didn't have clue about morphos. The AmigaOne G4 in my hands died. So I got back on-line to get help just as MorphOS 2.5 was released. I also had macs...downloaded it. It's been great fun using it.

Not trolling! I just sent for my Reg Key. MorphOS on the Mini is REALLY FAST. It surprised me.
My key just arrived. It took less than 12 hours!
-
@Jeff, congrats on your purchase! I'm glad to see others are registering MorphOS as well!
