Title: modplayer for classic amiga?
Post by: runequester on June 17, 2010, 07:41:00 AM
Whats a good mod player for 3.1 OS ?

Delitracker seems cool, but it either lacks playlist ability or I can't figure it out :)

It doesn't have to be super fancy. Basically what I need is:

Run in pretty limited RAM
have a playlist or play files from a folder

Hippoplayer, I remember that from ages ago.

A playlist is called a Program. It is launched from one of the graphical buttons in the main window.

I use Hippo Player for mods, delitracker for other formats.

I use EaglePlayer on my expanded A1200 and CD32, but on my low-end systems I use QuadraPlayer. It's smaller than most other mod players, has a nicer resizable GUI, a playlist, scopes, and runs well even on a 1MB 68000, so on a 2MB A1200 it flies. I made this short demonstration video a while ago where I use QuadraPlayer on my 1MB A600 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTLvrhlNdyc

You can download it here - http://aminet.net/package/mus/play/QuadraPlayer

I did get the playlist figured out in delitracker :)

I'll check out eagleplayer too.

BTW.. entirely off topic but your cat looks like a slender version of one of ours.

In my Amiga 500 days, I used EdPlayer (http://aminet.net/mus/play/EdPlyr21.lha) for mods replay. It works fine on 1MB RAM, supports playlist and replays mods just perfect.

Hippoplayer runs very good on 1MB systems too.

EaglePlayer and Delitracker are both great IMHO. I am slightly boased to Delitracker though, why, I forgot lol.

I used to run Quadraplayer too, its small and has a nice space-scope, but IMHO Delitracker got the best such scope, Monoscope. Also, if you dig into the drawers of Hippoplayer you will find all sorts of totally kick ass scopes.

Seconded, and I still use it.

When I got my A1200, EdPlayer was preinstalled on in for demonstration purposes.  It plays Protracker Mods and 4-voice MED files.  That's it.  It has a nicer look since it opens up on its own screen using a split-screen effect.

After a while I started using custom copper lists to make my 3 bitplane Workbench screen more colorful.  This ruined the EdPlayer palette advantage.  To make matters worse, I started playing with other formats than what EdPlayer supported.

Now I use HippoPlayer and am happy with it.  HiP FTW!

Probably not what is being asked for but when I was 'working' for Alpina I remember one of our members wrote this really small Modplayer. CLI based only but still it had a nice set of 4 copperlist bars like rotating rectangles spinning on their axis.

I wonder if anyone has it, would have been on early 1990 cracks anyway.
