For those under 30, what initially attracted you to the platform and what Amiga or Amiga-related system do you use?

Well, I'm a bit older but so what!
I had an 8-bit Amstrad CPC 6128 which I liked a lot, but some friends had Amiga 500s and they were playing Populous one time ...
Then another friend decided to sell his A500 (KS1.2, 512KB) to buy SNES games, so I got it for £150 I think. Came with very little! Hacked DPaint III I think, and a couple of cracked 3D games which I never played, and the running cat demo) Got a RAM upgrade and Monkey Island 2 soon after.
Apart from that I lived on magazine coverdisks for a while. And cracked games, but I don't know how I got them, probably through school. Played Sim City for days! And Settlers (have bought them all since in penance).

well im not under 30, but I know some Amiga users who are quite skilled in some Amiga areas. Ive asked them the same question and most of em got a second hand A500 when they where quite young and started to get intrested in Amiga most for nostalgic reasons and then their interest grew with the years.
Start this thread but ask all of us that are 30+ and ill write my life story :)

I was 5 when my dad bought a C-64 (very popular in Finland), I knew how to read so I pored through the manuals and messed around with that box. An A500 came in the summer of 1989, when I was 9. It was the logical upgrade path from the C-64, so I guess that's why.
What did I do with it? Deluxe Paint, ASM-One, JR-Comm, Terminus, Protracker, X-Copy, SuperDuper, RSI Demomaker, watched loads of demos, diskmags, music disks, slide shows and played various games.
What I use: A4000, A3000, A1200, A500. Mainly for archiving old scene productions for Break's and Zeg's databases.
Oh yeah and I'm 29 for a few more months.. ;-)

I'm 27 and grew up using C64 and Amigas. My older brother had a C64 from when I was 5 or so. When he got an A500 in about 89, I was given the C64, and then when he got an A500+ I was given the A500 :) I was quite Amiga obsessed, my interest outlived his by far. I used to save my pocket money to buy Amiga Format from the age of about 13. Eventually I got an my own A600, and later an A1200 in the late 90s which I towered up and used for internet etc. I eventually gave in and bought a PC when I started college though :/

I wish I were under 30, but I'm not.

I'm 28. I got my first Amiga, A600, late, around 1996 I think. Fortunately, my father has always been a computer enthusiast so I grew up surrounded by computers since I was 5. But sadly we skipped the 16bit era - it was C64 straight to 386SX. A600 was MY first computer, so I guess that, combined with general interest in retro computing, was what got me hooked.
-
Well I'm just over 30, but I have to say the games attracted me.
When Frontier came to the Amiga that is one of the games I have played the most.
And any game even remotely has a bit of play like that, I will buy it.
Systems, look below here >>>>>

Im 21 years old. What attracted me to Amiga ? When I was about 8 years old, I used to go to my cousins every summer. One night my cousin opened a closet and there it was: An A500+ with loads and loads of great games. We played all night long with it, and I fell in love. Theres something special about "Paula's Sound" that got my attention. I bought my own A500 about a month from that. Then after a long time without an Amiga, the itch came back. Had to buy an Amiga again in 2009. And since then I have been using my A1200 every day.

I'm 25 and the CD32 was my first games console. I collected lots of games, then discovered those WHDLoad compilation discs and wanted to learn how to make them myself, so I got an SX32 and fitted an internal CF drive and 8MB RAM so my CD32 could handle just about any games I tried on it. Now my system was capable enough to make my own games using Backbone so I started getting into game development after that, and now I'm obsessed with trying to make new games for the old Amiga. I'm currently learning how to program in AmigaE so I can write applications as well as games.

I am in my late 20s and first started using Amiga in early 90s after my parents bought me my first amiga. Was a standard a500 with 1meg extension, zipstick joystick and a few games.
Before that we had a c64 which i also used heavily until they bought that amiga. I have seen then never been able to let go of the Amiga.
The reason why my parents bought the Amiga was because my cousin had bought one a bit earlier and they got really impressed after seeing it in action. The c64 just could not be compared to the amazing abilities of the a500.

Me an my brother got a C=128 when i was about 4. We got an amiga when i started school. I found a couple of my old disks the other day and realised i had used my amiga for school papers until I started senior high (16-17 years old).
I guess what attracted me was the trackers and the adventuregames. I also used to love messing around in AmigaOS and Amos, however, it was always Octamed and Beneath a steel sky for me.
I still use my amiga for music and games, but little else.
I'm 24 and studying musical science.

I'm 26. My first computer was an A500 for Christmas when I was about 3. It was the Amiga that started my computing hobby, so it will always have a special place in my heart.

I'm 28. I've been member of PC demoscene and at the parties, I admired Amigas so this was the time my obsession started. I see most people who write here are around 30 years anyway, so it's nice (and rare) that even younger are amongst us :]
I'm using A1230 with many cool peripherals.

I'm 29 years old and bougth my first Amiga in 1999.
I got a C64 when I was 7 and PC after that. But some of my frindes had Amigas. And we played a lot on them. So I bougth one to learn about Amiga.

It still seems like yesterday when we were in the year 2000 with all those important decisions. I was only 23 at the time:(
I don't think most of us will get to 60 and still moan about Amigas though:) If the platform doesn't find a niche market we'll all leave it sooner or later, even for retro stuff.
-
unfortunately i am 30. :)
when i was 8, i was for a MSX2, but after a demonstration of its capabilities (to me and my father who payed a lot of money for a stupid tv with a keyboard hehe) at a neighbourgh's home i've got my first amiga (2000).
