Title: Amiga 2000 - Piccolo SD64 with Picasso96 troubles
Post by: Robert17 on June 11, 2010, 06:14:01 PM
Evening all - I'm having a bit of a headscratching problem with my Amiga 2000.

First off, it's got a Blizzard 2060 card, an Ariadne II and a Piccolo SD64 card in it.

The trouble is, the machine runs fine with no videoboard,

However, with Cybergraphx4 installed and updated, it runs nicely for a few hours, then the machine locks up totally, requiring a reboot.

Picasso96 Also works well, and very fast I might add, and doesn't lockup in the same way that Cybergraphx does, however when using a Picasso96 screenmode, when I try to run a WHDLoad game or Demo, the screen switches, and you get picture for a split second, then the video trashes with lines and all sorts of artifacts - you can however quit back to workbench via keystroke.
The same games work just fine if you start workbench in an amiga native videomode - also the games work with Cybergraphx - however I get the lockup issues I mentioned above.

Please Help :-)

Robert

You can run Enforcer or other monitoring tool like SnoopDOS to see what exactly go nasty when switching to WHDLoad using P96.

That's a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. I'm pretty sure it's a software issue, as I've also tried all the expansions on another Amiga 2000 motherboard of a different revision.

Will try it tomorrow :)

I have some issues with Piccolo SD64 too. My A2000 with Blizzard 060 works perfect with Picasso II+, but when I put Piccolo I have problems:
1. Under CGX4 my system is unstable and lockups in OS 3.9, in Games, P96Speed
2. Under P'96 is better but Amiga is still unstable,
3. The best solution is OS 3.1 + P'96, but after few hours my system boots and rests in the loop.

So I think this is hardware problem I think it colud be dry joints. Try to make reballing of card.

I get perfect stability with Picasso 96 - except when I try to use a game or a scenedemo, native video locks up and trashes the screen.

I think I'll have to admit defeat and get another videocard :-(

Have you try only raw OS 3.1 +P'96?

Hi radzik,

No I haven't tried 3.1, to be honest I like 3.9 too much and can't go backwards :-)
Fortunately a friend of mine is lending me a Cybervision 64/3D - so I shall install that and see if it works properly. It's just such a shame Cybergraphx crashes, as it works prefectly apart from the lockups every couple of hours :-(

Try to test Piccolo SD64 by this http://uk.aminet.net/driver/video/SD64Test.readme

I ran the Piccolo SD64 test for a good hour and it kept running, so I can presume I don't have one of the 'faulty' boards. I'll be getting an Amiga 4000 soon, so I will have to test the Piccolo in that to see if it behaves the same, I'll keep in touch and let you know what I find.
