I was a little suspect of the locked in nature of the iPad. Now my suspicions are confirmed. Put some USB ports on the thing so you can plug in anywhere, what a joke.

Pretty much agree. Have had the iPad since it was released here in Australia. Awesome device and it is round one. I am sure with some more releases it will improve to be a fantastic device. It already does many things well and many things not so well.
The battery life on it's own is a blessing and being the size of a compact diary a laptop bag isn't needed to carry it around.

No suprise there for me, I could bet my right leg on that long before the iPad was released.
But I would never want one anyways, I want a machine with x86 architecture and not the ARM iPad with no multitasking and lame absence of flash, not that im against ARM, I code alot for ARM architecture, but if I want ARM I also want a linux kernel 2.6x atleast, then im happy.
Also I want a qwerty keyboard, but logitech got a nice tiny bluetooth keyboard in the DiNovo series.
but for now ill stay with Pandora :)

I suspect that apple are playing the same strategy as they did with the iPhone. They release the device in quite a limited form, but one they know they can sell... And made sure that they have refined that form to the point of ensuring that it does it's job without problems.
Only once the Market is establised will they then add the sort of feature that would make you or I want one.

I would think the better way of looking at it is, that Apple release products that are missing key features. Like they did with the iphone. Apart from the touchscreen the rest of the tech was way way behind the rest of the smartphones on the market. That way they can release a new version of 6 months and get the early adopters to keep updating their hardware.
There is no way Apple didn't relalise that people would want 3g and a camera and copy and paste etc.

from all the stuff I read... nice piece of hardware (lacking a basic usb port - eh ?? )... horribly limiting software
count me out for now :(
Happy MacBookPro user though...

It's very popular with the gays in Chelsea area of Manhattan. Not that I have anything against that... I'm just sayin...

I'm glad to hear that some people are happy.

Last time I was in an apple store, some guy in tights and weird hairdo approached me and I thought to myself "What the hell does he want from me?!" and then a second later "Oh, he works here."
