So doing a little retro gaming competition with a few of my friends. 3-4 people in total propably.
So the idea is.. we'll play 2 games that are single player, and compete for highest score, then play 2 "player vs player" games.
Finally, the two players that did best in the above 4 games will compete for highest score in a cooperative game.
So I need some help picking games for each of the 5 categories.
They need to play pretty quick, being difficult is fine.
For the two single player games, I want a shoot em up and a platformer.
For shmup, I am thinking one of Project X, Disposable Hero, Agony or Apidya. Any other suggestions or votes?
For a platformer, what is good for the criteria? Assasin or Lethal Weapon spring to mind.
For player vs player games, the options are fighting game (not a lot of great ones, but Fightin Spirit is great), racing game (Lotus 2?) and sports (Speedball 2 or Sensible world of soccer)
Then for a co-op game, I am thinking Chaos Engine or Banshee.
Very very open to suggestions on good games for any of the above categories

mmm
Rodland. That is your one player platforming compete for highscore game. What a fun game.
1 player shooty game: Saint Dragon. It's a bit trickier than your standard OMGSHOOTSTUFF shmup. Enough to be more engaging and new :)
PVP: Ironman Ivan Stewarts SUPER OFFROAD. Cmon, games awesome.
PVP2: Definitely Fighting Spirit. Definitely. :D
Cooop game: Smash TV. It's Coop, but you both have a score, and are actively competing to grab stuff. its perfect

I'll have to check out Rodland.
Ruff n Tumble came to mind as well. The music is killer :)
For the side scroller, I want something that is pretty basic and straight forward, so there's not too much of an advantage for being the guy to play last
Good point on Smash TV, though I unfortunately dont have an adapter for 4 joystick which this game really benefits from.
EDIT: I'd really prefer to avoid arcade conversions, as I want to show off "amiga native" games, where possible. But Im not ruling an arcade game out completely.
