I have a disk with "GMBH Kick 2.0" on it... it looks like some sort of softkicker and loads KS2.0 Beta. IIRC I used to have a WB2 disk somewhere and I was able to run that on it.
Does anyone know anything about it? What is a recommended softkicker for a stock Amiga 2000 (KS1.3)? I've seen some that require a 68040 cpu, or to downgrade from higher KS versions.

Hmm MKick looks like it might do the job?

Yep, MKick is what you want. Might as well buy a real kickstart though, theyre cheap enough.

This brings up something I have been going back and forth on doing for years now. I want to run 2.0+ on an A1000 and would rather not put in a KS ROM. What are my options. I have seen hacks to expand the WOM so that it would be large enough to accommodate a later KS.

The GMBH Kicker loads quite an old beta of 2.0, the version is 36.67.
Also it doesn't know how to reloc the KS image, it is pre-relocated to c00000..
Use skick, mkick, or something newer to softkick a production version of 2.0.. :-)

I have thought about it... I have 3MB of RAM so using 512k for the ROM isn't so much of an issue - at least in the short term. Is there any reason to get a KS2 chip? or should I just go to the latest KS3.1?
It looks like amigamaniac is looking to produce a V3 of his kickstart switcher (http://www.amigamaniac.com/ksrs.html) so I might hold out until that comes out, if it's not too expensive. I could buy 1 or 2 chips (KS2, KS3.1) to switch between; AU$13.80 (including delivery) is pretty good.

haha yeah, the beta thing was a bit worrying. Should I bother with KS2 or just softkick to KS3.1 (if I can)?

I have one ROM chip with 3 versions of Kickstart on it with a 3 position switch to pick between them. It's awesome.

It's not dangerous or anything, but it is an ancient version that will not be able to run the majority of software that requires 2.04 or better.
Just go straight to 3.1.

Awesome, where did you get that from?
Is there any use for KS2? i.e. Is there anything that only runs on 2.x but not 1.x or 3.x?

Yeah, I was going to get a proper (non-beta) KS2 version, but I'm not sure I need to bother if I can go from 1.3 to 3.1

Not very much software worth mentioning that requires 2.0 and won't run on 3.1. :-)
