Title: Indivision AGA 4000 / CD32 Scandoubler/Flicker Fixer
Post by: MaDDuck on June 01, 2010, 11:17:28 PM
Some questions that I could not find the answers for about this impressive device.

1. How can the firmware be updated if it is to reside in a CD32? Or would it not be a problem anyway?

2. How would PAL/NTSC games work? Would there be any interlace flicker at all?

3. How could scan lines be turned off and back on on the CD32?

Anyone else have one? How do Lemmings, Gloom, and other games actually look in VGA (HD)?

Thanks, guys!!

We ship the Indivision AGA 4000 / CD32 (http://www.amigakit.us/product_info.php?products_id=864) with the latest firmware, but we are working on a CD32 self booting CD which our customers can obtain to reflash the unit with later firmware.

Indivision AGA 4000 / CD32 (http://www.amigakit.us/product_info.php?products_id=864) is fully compatible with NTSC and PAL games.

With the Indivision Config tool, you can turn on/off scanlines, just ask for the CD with Indivisions tools on it at time of ordering.

Hope this helps!

All games look great through the Indivision, PAL or NTSC.

..and you'll find no flicker anywhere.

Not even that faint 50/60 Hz flicker that is softer than standard eyeball-itching interlace flicker.

ALSO- how well to PAL games center on a VGA monitor? And are the colors correct and not faded or muted?

And how well do FMV VCDs look?

About the only "downside" I can see in putting an indivision AGA into a CD32 is the fact that these older systems sometimes look BETTER on TV sets or monitors with fewer pixels than they do on newer monitors. The low pixel counts soften the edges a bit where games look "blocky" on modern monitors IMHO.

If you are in the states and are looking for a solution for playing PAL games (like 99% of CD32 games are), I would recommend picking up a used multisystem TV set. I grabbed one off of Craigslist for $40 locally and it has SCART and does PAL/NTSC.

I can handle the picture looking blockier.
I am right now using a JAM! system to up-convert SVIDEO to VGA. It converts it to a 640 X 480 VGA picture. It's barely adequate at best! I don't want another TV, I already have a multi-sync TV, I want something better than SCART.

Sounds like the Indivision AGA is just what you need then. I have no complaints with my A1200 version. The only thing you may want to consider is that it was designed to plug into computer monitors into not necessarily TV's with VGA ports. I have a 55" Samsung LCD/DLP that will not display my A1200 / indivision AGA but displays my PC laptop fine.
