Title: Icon 'caching' utility for the Amiga?
Post by: mingle on May 24, 2010, 12:51:09 PM
Hi,

Does anyone know of a program that will 'cache' the icons in a directory, so when I open it in Workbench the icons are there pretty much instantaneously, without having to parse and display each icon one by one?

Cheers,

Mike.

IconBeFast (Aminet) or Icon.library 46.4.163 (Aminet), which are from the same author, use a color distance table of only 1 KB to avoid many time consuming calculations or compares and branches.
For further optimization it has a cache for colormap decoding. The loading of 256 color GlowIcons can be 6+ times faster now. You need at least a Workbench with 32 colors to get a profit.

Not really, Glowicons, and IconBeFast can also work with 3.1 and probably with 3.0 too.
I believe not everyone knows that. :(

I happened to read iconbefast docs and this popped into me: IBF 2.0+ needs the OS 3.5+ icon.library  - so it's just the library. (Was going to recommend iconbefast but you were faster ;) )
