Title: Check the state of an ISA card on AMIGA
Post by: VingtTrois on May 18, 2010, 05:57:30 PM
I've an ISA card on my AMIGA 3000.
I don't have the install disk for this card.
How can I check the state of this ISA card and his state (or proper functioning if possible, like "Expansion Board Diagnostic" on the EarlyStartup)?
Thanks you very much for your answers.

Do you also have a bridgeboard installed?  You'd probably need to run something on the PC side of things to check the card.

No bridgeboard? As far as I've heard, the ISA slots are invisible.

ISA slots aren't connected to the Amiga bus in any way so they just receive power from PSU. You'll need a bridgeboard to use them. GoldenGate2 allowed accesing some ISA cards. CBM bridgeboards allow using network cards from amiga side using etherbridge package from aminet.

It's not a bridgeboard, it's a FERAL EFFECT card. Yes, I think like you&Crumb: AMIGA can't see ISA card without bridgeboard !

I've the A2088XT but I don't think it will works with my FERAL EFFECT card (http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/feraleffect)...and I don't have the manual & install disk for this card (and nothing to controll through the serial port) :(

It's a TBC & digital FX board. As suggested, it only gets power from the ISA slot. It's controlled through the serial port. I'm not familiar with this one, but they usually have a little 3-wire jumper that connects to a header on the Amiga motherboard. The header is an interior connection to the Amiga's serial port.
Without the software about all you can do is hope that it works as a TBC in default mode..

I don't know how the "Feral" serial cable will be or where could you find the software but with cbm A2088XT you should be able to use an ISA network card. It shouldn't interfere with "Feral" in any way.

Try asking this guy about the drivers but remember to upload them somewhere after you get them ;-) http://www.amiga.org/gallery/index.php?n=1527

But how to control with the AMIGA's serial port (which software)? I put the pictures of this card below. Yes I have the external serial connector for this card: Do I connect it to the AMIGA serial connector? And how to control (which software)? Thanks for your help.

I'll try in few day with the A2088XT but I think I need good software to control the FERAL card ?!? Thanks for your help.
Yes, if I found software and/or manual I upload here and in others AMIGA website.

It says RS-232 so that is serial.  It probably came with a short cable to connect from the external serial to the Amiga.  Try hooking it up and talking to the card with a terminal program.  You'll at least get output when you match the cards speed and mode correctly (example 9600 8-N-1).

Salut mon grand 23 !

Hello my great VingtTrois!
I highly suppose, it  works like DPS TBC v2/3/4 :
- you use a 3 pins cable that  plugs into the "internal" Serial connector pins as it does on my internal A2K,
- or you can find the external  connector that goes for the serial port connector.
