Title: Amiga os3.1/3.9 questions...
Post by: haywirepc on May 14, 2010, 09:31:48 PM
I got someone here to install amiga os3.9 on a hard drive for my 1200. It works, but when it starts it crashes a few times (left mouse button then it goes)

When it boots I get an error message because its looking for the cd-rom, which this system dosn't have but obviously the system which did the install does have...

Is there a way I can tell it there is no cd-rom so I don't get this error message? Also, anyone know where I can register ide-fix because that nag screen is also getting on my nerves extremely.

Finally, I am considering just switching back to os3.1 which I have on cf card and boots up without problems, crashes or nag screens.

Does anyone know is there a program for os3.1 to change desktop icons as it works in os3.9? Thanks for your thoughts...

Hi,

Take a look at the Classic workbench packs, they have custom icons and a tonne of useful features.

Go into your 's' directory and look at user-startup. Type this in case this is all new to you:

sys:s
edit user-startup

...and look for anything that might call upon the CD Drive such as AsimCDFS. Comment that out. Also, CD0 (or whatever it's been labeled) icon is probably in the devs/dosdrivers directory. Drag that to sys:storage/dosdrivers and reboot. That'll take care of the pesky CD issue.

Thanks guys that did it!

Also, I noticed this in the user startup as the only thing that was not commented out :

if exists c:SetpatchmrgCop
setpatchmrgcop
endif

Anyone know what that is?
Not sure what this was but suspected it may be the cause of my initial booting crashes. Commented it out and no more crashes at bootup.

There was no mention of the cd or anything else in user startup, so I copied the cd0 icon out of that folder as you mentioned, no more bootup
error messages, except for idefix which I think I will just register so it stops nagging the hell out of me!

I'm very happy, now I can keep os3.9, which I think I would much prefer to do... This week I am finally going to order a complact flash card reader for this 1200 from amigakit so I can finally transfer files to and from. I feel like its stuck on a desert island right now, with only floppies... I don't have a catweasel or anything like that.

Thanks guys!
