Following the recent announcement about the Sam460ex, the latest addition to
the SAM family, ACube Systems is very pleased to announce that the work to
port AmigaOS 4.1 to the Sam460ex is in progress and it's carried out by our
partner Hyperion Entertainment CVBA.
A few screenshots of the initial port:

The release date is still targeted for September.
Thanks for your support.

Great news!

I don't see a 460 model advertised at Amigakit. Are these that new or something? And yes... one would think OS 4.1 should/would work on a Sam4xx board :)
-
Good to see! I guess Hyperion must be burning the midnight oil!
It will be interesting to see if it supports the PCI-express slot on release....
It will also be interesting to see if the proposed specification gets updated (I'm crossing my fingers).
How about this (http://www.appliedmicro.com/MyAMCC/jsp/public/productDetail/product_detail.jsp?productID=PPC460SX) for the 'Flex' version ACube?
;)

Nice. I might have to finally give OS 4.1 a try.

Great news. :D

OS 4.1 is like a sugar-coated Jesus flying on a magic carpet!
-
way to go ACube and Hyperion:drink::D

Looks like it will be close to $1000 US;if the AEon comes in at $1500 then the OS4.x hardware range will be from about $600 to $1500 .
I REALLY don't get why the SAM+OS isn't simply listed as ONE price since you can't buy a SAM without AmigaOS (unless I read the site wrong) ?

Sticky and trippy?

Looks like the "Ex" version is the only one with an FPU. The others are all listed as being for NAS/SAN devices.

No, SAM460 plus OS4.1 is about $950 USD which is just mobo and OS4.1 but the A1X1K is $1900 USD for the system if they can keep it that target price and I expect it to be higher at launch. So there should be a atleast $1K USD difference between the two.

ACube says the 460 is not replacing the 440 so I think the low end will still be the 440 667Mhz which is closer to $700 with the OS;didn't realize the AEon was $1900.
Sometimes I lose track of if discussion is euros, dollars, or pounds!

Because that will make it look as expensive as it really is?

Yeah, and if prices are quoted with or without VAT, different VAT percentage in different countries, price quotes for motherboard alone vs. quotes for complete systems, and price quotes including OS4 or excluding it. Much to keep in mind when doing comparisons!
:)

seeing as the price for the X1000 hasnt been announced yet, everyones just speculating anyway, including yourself

If the euro continues to fall against the US$ I MAY be able to afford MorphOS registration!

I think the EUR will continue to fall to about 1 EUR =1.20 US$ by end of May. But probably then stabilize a bit above that level for the next time (many months). But if 1.18 falls I think the next hard hurdle will be the 1:1 ratio. But the chance we will see the 1.18 falling is rather low in my expectation. Not only the ECB will strongly try to avoid that, but also China. They are way too afraid of cheap European exports. They will then attack the US$ for getting weaker (or, more unlikely because way more difficult/expensive, try to push up the EUR). They definitely have the liquidity to attack the US $ (something they currently use/build up to justify the under value worth of the Renminbi).

Yep, I've still got a Mac Mini in mind if I can't get a 060 for my 1200 for under $600.
Either way, I still have a Mac Mini in mind. :)

I'm still kind of let down by the fact that you can't even upgrade the CPU on these things. If a CPU card is too expensive then at least allow a CPU socket.
