HELP!
How do you say "Greek" in Greek?
Thank you :)
-
For Greek as in the language, I think it's said "Ellinika". In Greek lettering, its Åëëçíéêüò or something. Better a real Greek answers.
-
If you want to say, a greek male person, you say "Elinas" with a stress on the E word. If you want to say, a greek female person, you say "Elinida" with a stress on the midle I. If you are talking about something neutral, you say "Eliniko", with a stress on the O.
-
Greek person male: Ellinas ( Έλληνας)
Greek person female : Ellinida ( Ελληνίδα)
Greek language: Ellinika (Ελληνικά)
Greek item: Elliniko (Ελληνικό)
Greek idiot: Vlakas (Βλάκας) - That's me...
Greek Amigan: Amigas (Αμιγκάς)
Greece in Greek: Ellada or Hellas (Ελλάδα ή Ελλάς)
:-D
-
Just wondering.....do you have all those greek chars on the keyboard too? :-D
-
Yes, I have a greek keyboard.
The characters you see on the post, are not the greek characters. You'll need greek fonts to see the text. :-D
-
Hey, don't forget: Mangas! :-D
So tell me, how do you type in those Greek letters? I can see those letters, but I'm not sure what I need to do to type them. Oh yeah, I'm using WinXP.

Read (http://www.mfa.gr/english/greece/living/read_greek/index.html) and listen (http://www.mfa.gr/english/greece/living/listen_greek/index.html) to the Greek language (http://www.mfa.gr/english/greece/living/read_greek/language.html), one of the oldest linguistic traditions of the world.
P.S. In order to read what is written above, just set the codepage to 8859-7. ;-)

@Odin, yes, those are Greek.
Your bitmap really freaked me out btw, I thought IE was spazzing out on me! :-)

In windows I just use Alt+Shift to change the keymap. To do this you must have greek keymap installed and the greek language as the 2nd language.
In amiga i use Alt+Space (I like the combination and set it on the Fkey commodity :-) )
-
when i was a kid i learnt how to read greek by looking at a greek keyboard and reading shop signs.
Just wondering, why do u want to know ChaosLord?

I assume that he wants to add the Greek Translation link in Total Chaos.

Just wondering, why do u want to know ChaosLord?
My Team is producing the World's Best Strategy Game (http://xavprods.free.fr/chaos/index.html)
In order to be the best, the game must be playable in Greek because:
1. Greek Amiga Community is very resilient and deserves it.
2. Greece is the home of many Legendary Heroes such as Hercules, Animagic and Xena: Warrior Princess :-D
3. Greek fonts look way cool
4. The game is partly based on Greek Mythokogy.
A very big Thank You to everyone for theGreek help. :-)

1. What is the relation between Jesus, Fish, and
Greek language?
2. What is the meaning of Malaka (a city in
Malaysia) in Greek? (see other thread)
3. Why Math & Phsyic formula always use Greek
notation: Alpha, Beta, Delta, Gamma, Tau, Pi?
4. Is Alpha, Beta, and Gamma Ray related to Greek?
5. What is the difference between Geek and Greek?
6. Is there any "That's sound Greek to me" in
Greece? :-)

Δοκιμαζω τα ελληνικα στο IE6. Η ορθογραφια μου δεν ειναι πολυ καλη, αλλα ξερω να διαβαζω και να μειλαω απλα Ελληνικα. Την οξεια πωσ την γραφετε???
- Μιχαλησ (How do you write the 's' that's supposed to go at the end of the word (without switching to english like I did)? The 'σ' there is obviously wrong)
-
6. Is there any "That's sound Greek to me" in
"γυφτικα", I mean, "giftika". :-) When my family visited Greece a decade or so ago, my grandmother would hear my sister and I speaking English and she'd call us her little gypsies! I think that's the closest to "it's all greek to me" that you'll find in Greece. :-)

Answers:
1. Ask Jesus
2. Malakas in Greek is the man that plays with his d##k. Also used to describe sobebody who is an a##hole
3. Because Greeks discovered all this.
4. I honestly have no idea! Ask NASA.
5. Can't fint the word "geek" in any of my translation books.
6. Already answered in an older thread, it is: "It's all Chinese to me."

Note how subtle the difference between 'greek' and 'geek' is...

followed by a vowel.

Hello
1. Fish: See:
ICHTHYS (http://arsmar.com/ce-at.htm)
2. Ass*
There is a famous leader of leftist guerilla
in South East Asia who was killed after communist
rebellion in 1948 (similar to Che Guevara):
Tan Malaka.
During Japanese occupation, he is their main
target. I guess he hide in Greece :-)
4. Ray: Alpha and Beta particles are not
dangerous, if you wear clothes, but Gamma particle
will kill you.
