Hi,
Just managed to get my A3000 all back together.
It is:
68030-25mhz
2mb chip/16mb fast
Cybervision 64
Emplant
75gb SCSI HD
CF-IDE-SCSI (Can't use any CF card over 16mb so far, why? I dunno)
Using which OS would I have the best experience with (eye candy vs performance)?
OS3.1, OS3.9, AFA OS
And what patches would be best to run to get the best experience?
Thanks

I run OS3.9 on my A3000D with CV64 BUT I upgraded to a 040 and 64MB uisng a Z3 fastlane. I found OS3.9 was too slow on the stock 030. 3.1 runs well though and IMO is a btter choice for 030.

OS 3.1 seconded. you should get the scsi.device & filesystem patches though to use big drives. I'm using a 16 gb CF in my setup and so far no problems :afro:

I am running 3.5 and like it better tahn 3.1. Feels just as fast

Thanks for the opinions all!
Funny thing is my A3000 won't even boot with anything bigger than a 16mb Lexar CF card.... and I've tried a few Sandisk 4gb, Adata 4gb, Adata 8gb, Patriot 8gb, etc. :(

Normally 3.5/3.9 would run slowly on a 030/25 if you were running in ECS, but since you have an RTG card its possible that the component that normally slows these systems down won't be as slow on your system, picture.datatype. It won't need to remap and dither every single image it loads down to 16 colours, it should be able to spit them out instantly in 24bit, speeding up booting and loading times, especially for image-laden applications like YAM.
Many of the patches people normally apply to 3.1 or AGA systems won't be needed. FBlit, FText, BlazeWCP are all unnecessary if you have a graphics card. The only patches I'd recommend are VisualPrefs and Birdie which will help spruce up your Workbench.
I don't think you should just rely on the opinions of a bunch of random people on the internet though, just install OS3.1 and OS3.9 on separate partitions and try them both yourself.

Problem is with those non-working CF cards the machine won't even boot so I can't even get to HDToolBox.

3.9
It has all the stuff you need on the install CD.
Nice tidy setup.

Oh yeah, have you tried to install ClassicWB or AmigaSYS on your A3000? Both of them offer a variety of utilities, programs and games pre-installed, and have already been configured to look nicer than the default installation.
