Title: Efika with linux and XBMC
Post by: pyrre on May 06, 2010, 10:57:52 AM
Have any of you guys ever attempted to put XBMC on an efika?

1 - Is it possible to use it as a media player?
2 - If so.. can i get digital sound?
3 - And is it possible to use a remote control with the efika?

puh... lots of questions...

The question should be why there's no XBMC on MorphOS since it would run rings around linux version on the same hardware ;-)

BTW, Geit was working on a nice xbmc like front end, let's hope he has time to finish it :-)

I cant see no real reason to use morphos as an underlying os for xbmc. purchasing a license for a complete os, when i only need a gateway for the component drivers... And if this is possible. the efika will only be a media player. So, i see no real use in morphos for this purpose...

There is a linux PPC versions on the XBMC.  I take it there is a version of XBMC for the 360 ?

@pyrre

MorphOS MPlayer is faster than Linux MPlayer, that's a good reason to use MorphOS instead of LinuxPPC.

"I take it there is a version of XBMC for the 360"
not that i am aware of. Xbox 360 has not yet been "opened" like the old xbox...

@Crumb
Does MorphOS MPlayer have the functionality of XBMC?

I'm afraid it hasn't all functionality but you can use OS features to supply it (smb-handler, nfs handler, ftp mount...). It won't show images (although you can use ShowGirls for that) but the main advantage compared to Linux MPlayer is smoothness.

There are some plugins for Radio
http://morphos-files.net/download/RadioScript

But the most interesting thing in development is Guido Mersmann's Media Center:

Guido has developed some InfraRed control software IIRC

@runequester
sure it is.

I have never had any problems with smoothness on my laptop running XBMC live cd....
To be honest i can't see what your point is.

I have XBMC on my xbox as well. no problems with smoothness.
Some of my friends running linux and XBMC, views video smooth and crisp...

I want the functionality of XBMC. if the efika cannot deliver it, it is out of the question to use the efika.
I rather build a dedicated media computer.
However. the efika is of a perfect size, and it have all the needed components... and add to the equation, i already have an efika...

hmm has AROS for EFIKA been completed? Have not followed this in the past. If yes: http://aros-exec.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=4632&forum=4&post_id=40646#forumpost40646
