Hi,
I've been pretty happy with my UAE emulated Amiga. But I have been reading about the old Amithlon software. I know it's not officially updated anymore and doesn't support modern motherboards.
But a lot of people seemed to like Amithlon. So my question is, compared to today's state of UAE, is still any reason or advantage to using Amithlon?

Yes Amithlon was great. So great Amiga Inc pulled the license as it did a better job at an Amiga experience than anything they had in the works.
Problem is you need old Athlon hardware to use it. I've seen updates but UAE has gone through so many iterations that it's really rbust.
There's a guide out there on how to take a PC install a streamlined XP installation the boots into the UAE environment. That's teh closest you'll get to Amithlon without getting an old copy.

But just what made Amithlon better than UAE? And (if one could get a copy) does it still beat UAE?
Is AmigaOS-XL restricted to Althlon processors?

Amithlon boots on my Dual core Laptop (Intel).

Wasn't the custom chip emulation stripped out? Less to emulate so it was faster, but at the cost of sacrificing compatibility with anything that hit the hardware.

It was super fast! I've never seen an Amiga fly like that before. when you double clicked to open windows it was instant and some programs would load at the blink of an eye. I never tested rendering or processing on it but I'm sure it was fast.
This was back on an old P4 I believe? It might have even been a P3?
I couldn't imagine how fast it would be on my 3ghz Core duo2 here?

Once again, it depends on what you want it to do.
If classic gaming is important, UAE is probably the better choice. It tries to emulate all Amiga custom hardware. UAE (and Amiga XL) are hosted in another OS. Some ppl hate this.
If you cling to Amiga for other reasons (philosophical, elegant OS, love the productivity apps, etc), there is a lot to explore and appreciate in Amithlon. Like Aros, Amithlon "feels" like Amiga OS was ported to X86 architecture and is natively running, though, it runs in a small kernal.

It's also worth mentioning that modern PC hardware is emulating an Amiga at insane speeds, regardless if you use UAE or Amithlon.
I have a modified XP install running on my laptop. Feels and looks like a real miggy (apart from the boot screen, that is :D)
