Hello. I was told that in order to get the real amiga experience, that I should be using the 3000. I had a 1200 and really liked it. I used it for a while until it was thrown out in the trash (a mistake on roomate's part). I have a 4000, but dont want to mess around with the scan converter (and its really a video toaster machine anyway). I'm looking for something that gives the full amiga experience, without the hassle of a scan converter, allowing me to do what I need to do on a amiga.

A scan converter would be cheaper, and a 4000 with an Indivision will work on most LCDs. The 3000's scandoubler doesn't fix 50hz modes, so unless you've got a 50hz compatible display (probably not an issue if you're not in the US) you might not be able to run PAL screenmode software (lots of games.) 3000 not having AGA could be an issue too. For the "real Amiga experience," you need one of each model released!
Having said that, I prefer the 3000 to the 4000 myself. Good luck finding one at a reasonable price.

You already have the makes for a great Amiga experience though with your A4000. What's the real problem, no RGB monitor? Finding one of them to hook to it is going to be your cheapest (if you can find one locally) bet.
The 3000 is great for what it is and for cosmetic reasons, is my favorite modern Amiga as well. It can be a major hassle tracking down systems sometimes and re-installing software, etc. Personally, I'd just build on your A4000 by getting an Indivision AGA card and go from there. You won't regret it (unless you start to experience the bad capacitor syndrome so many seem to these days).

A3000 is not really good to play games :)
As tone007 says, A3000 is simply best than A4000.
It's the reason that I've two of them :) ... perhaps also that I cannot find an A4000 not expensive at all.
And if you find one, don't forget to change all bugged A3000 chips (ie: Western Digital SCSI CONTROLLER, etc...).

I still enjoy the Amiga experience and I gotta say I use my A1200 with expanded SCSI with a Multisync monitor on OS3.0 for most things. My second most used machine is an A1200 in a tower with scandoubler running an Iiyima monitor followed by my A4000D with PicassoIV running with a Mitsubishi monitor. My A1200 basic machine is on broadband with Miami. I have mothballed A3000s and wouldn't use them seriously. All my software games etc run through the 1200 as that has been my main Amiga since 1993 and has grown up with me over the years... I have never had any grumbles with the computer and still love it to death.
The A3000 was not part of the last generation of Amiga models, which were really the A600, 1200 and 4000. These later models were heavily developed outside of the Commodore pond post 93. So there is oodles of kit lying around for them, and, they were modded to take the newer technology.

I always wanted an A3000 and was lucky enough to get a nice system a few weeks ago (along with a very nice A4000).
The A3000 is very well made and just looks soooo much better than the cheap-n-nasty A4000D. Even today, it's still a very sleek and professional design... and it was out long before any of the SFF PCs (to which it's a very similar physical size).
My A4000, which is currently in pieces (getting the MB repaired), is much snappier and has the added advantage of AG, but there's something almost magical about sitting infront of the A3000 and pressing the 'On' button! :-)
... maybe it's just because I was after one for so long? :-)

Yeah the 4000 I got does turn on, things are running, but I dont have a monitor to hook up (my LCD is finicky). I think I am going to check it out this weekend and pull what I have from the storage unit. My favorite machine is the 1200. The 4000's case is bleh, but I hope it runs great. I even bought 3 SCSI drives for it (for the flyer card)
SO what I am going to do is go to the storage unit, pull out my 4000 stuff, buy a scandoubler, install and play!
Then I can work on the A1200 stuff :)
