Oh man!!
My main Amiga 4000 (as mentioned in the last post 'Amiga 4000 woes...) will not boot up now, I cleaned the SIMM socket even better and now leave it empty and it will pass the MLB test and boot up normally.
I installed a standard IDE CDrom into it and set it for slave and rebooted.
It booted up fine
I then installed ASIMCDFS and proceded to copy the reccomended files to the reccomended directories.
THEN I read that I should of run IDEFIX97 instead as this is an IDE CD drive.
So I removed all of the files that the docs told me to copy, and rebooted.
NOW I get a :
Setpatch: Unknown command
Setpatch failed returncode 10
1>_
I then searched T:, C:, S: and could not find setpatch at all!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THEN I tried 'ED STARTUP-SEQUENCE' and put a ';' infront of the setpatch command and it booted but it did not see the AGA set and would not run cross-DOS! I'm sure that there are other issues those are just the ones I noticed.
ANY suggestions?
I don't have the original 3.0 floppys anymore, burried, etc. I do have the 3.9 CD but I can't save any files to disk (on another computer) because cross-DOS won't work.
I do have a WB 1.3 disk though! Is there a setpatch there? Will it work just well enough to get it to boot with cross-DOS??
thanks!
-
If there is a Setpatch in WB1.3 it will definetely not work. You need the correct setpatch I'm afraid. I'm sure people at #amiga.org can help you with this.
-
ouchie!
That's what I was affraid of.
I have the 3.9 CD and on it is the complete 3.0 WB set. BUT I can only read it on my eMac and it cannot write to a disk that the A4000 will read as cross-DOS will not run!
I did not delete the setpatchmgrcop file, it is still in the correct directory where it has always been!!
-
Do you have it networked?
if not you could setup a serial connection to a PC to get the needed file(s) off the OS CD.
-
simple :)
type a ; infron of setpatch in your s-s , then try again to start the system.
if it still doesnt, just try and mount cd as normal from cli like this:
assign env: ram:
assign t: ram:
mount cd0:
os3.9 should then be readable.
make sure you mount the unit u are supposed to,
to check that , go to devs:dosdrivers/
and list that dir.
incase u meet probs let me know r use this thread as you aint in deepshit just yet.
cheers
pps:reason is prbably as stated earlier you got an way old setpach installed..
-
Sorry no!
Just the A4000, an eMac and a G5 tower.
but, again, the file seems to be there..... :-o
I'll try it, but I never got a chance to install IDEfix yet...
-
It failed......
It prompted me to insert a:
I slid in the 1.3 disk (on a lark) and it did not work
Upon hitting cancel- it gave the same message as before!!!
-
ALSO-----
It is asking for setpatch, but the closest I could find is setpatchmgrcop!
what's the difference??
-
I did try a ';' infront of the setpatch command as stated earlier and it booted.
But it did not see the AGA set or cross dos, etc....
I misread your earlier post and tried 'a:' instead of ';'
opps!!!
-
I seem to recall setpatch needing to run in order for workbench to find AGA. Anyway, setpatch should be in your C directory.
I think your best bet right now would be to continue trying to get the cdrom drive running since the machine is at least booting (aga or not). If you can manage that, you can get setpatch from cd.
-
yes---
But I can't get IDEfix97 off of the floppy because it is PC formatted!!
-
So try going with the AsimCDFS then.. Some of the more recent (heh) versions should work with atapi drives.
-
Never heard of setpatchmgrcop, have you tried running that command ? Or tried "setpatchmgrcop ?"
Could be mistaken, but maybe setpatchmgrcop is setpatch, but somehow you renamed it ?
-
Had setpatch problem myself once on my A1200. I just took the setpatch file from my Deluxe Painmt IV disk, since its AGA comptible..........
Also didn't DP an some other progs/games boot into a WB screen.......... helped me a couple of times when I have had trouble........
and if you really need to read PC disk aren't there other programs than crossdos aviable on Aminet than can do it........
hmm..... maybe I should install my shiny new OS 3.9 myself b4 trying to help other ppl with problems :-)
-
dood: i said you should remove/deactivate setpatch from boot just for now and with a ; .
if it boots to wb then (aga wont be found) then you should install idefix as you was supposed to and then you will be able to mount your cdrom and os3.9 , so then you copy your setpatch from os3,9 cd to C: on your hdd (sys:c/)
hope this helps..
-
I can't.....
IDEFIX is on a PC FORMAT floppy
CROSS DOSS does NOT RUN with SETPATCH ;'ed!!
-
that suxx... got any orginal floppies? , or whatever...some of them have setpatch on em...
what country do u live in btw? , maybe its just easier to send a floppy with it on ?
cheers
-
As I said Setpatch from Deluxe Paint IV works..... still uses it in my A1200 .-)
but if you dont have that either..........
-
Fudge, Then my other suggestion won't work either.
Where do you live?
-
Houston
Tejas!!!
-
Houston
Tejas!!!
-
I live in Tejas!!!
I've e-mailed a friend about this, he's the guy I gave my PPC A1200 to when I upgraded.
I'll try to get him to either copy the file or mail me the HDD.... I've got an adapter!
-
Dude, I live in H-Town. Where abouts do you live?
-
Well, Duck, email me when you get this, 'cos I live in Houston, so I might be able to help you.
-
Yup, setpatch is needed to start AGA, but crossdos doesn't need AGA - it ran on 2.0 upwards (modern versio - there was a 1.3 version if I remember correctly)
Try doing the minimal startup mount env: envarc: loadwb,
go to storage/dosdrivers and run PC0 - it might run, though I can't test that.
The above startup is dangerous - any changes made to env variables will be permanent and it assumes everything is in the standard places (C S L LIBS etc)
