Boy, how hard can that be?
I bought 4Gb CF card with IDE adapter for my A1200 to replace HDD, but when I started to partition this thing with WB HD Tool Box, it worked out okay. But still I can't format all but HD0 partition..So what gives? WB's Format tool recognizes other partitions (HD1, HD2 and HD3) but when I try to format them it says "no disk in drive"! Am I too simple person for that task or what's the problem? Is there some quirk I missed?

Totally off topic, but I'm from the Isle of Wight :)

Thanks for reply!
I did the same way before, but tried to make 3 different sized partitions with no luck, but I'm just amazed that I can't have say 1Gb and 3Gb partitions, on same CF drive. Is it this FFS filesystem limitation? Also can't I have more than 2 partitions with this FFS filesystem?
Now I just managed to do two 2Gb partitions on this 4Gb card. It's okay, but still I would like to hear what is the case...

You should be able to make as many partitions as you like and of any size within the first 4 GiB (that's 4,294,967,296 bytes) of the drive.
It's recommended to keep partitions smaller than 2 GB because otherwise programs might report negative sizes or refuse to install. But there is no real 2 GB limit.
Another limit is created by the amount of available RAM. The bigger a partition is, the more RAM is needed to format it. If you don't have enough RAM, strange things might happen, like "no disk in drive" messages. Although it's more common that it starts to format but then says "not a dos disk" or simply crashes.

Well I have 32Mb of Fast Ram on 68030 accelerator board, so I don't think it's about that, but what I'm thinking, is that my HDToolBox isn't up to task.Maybe it needs to be patched? Anyway "I rest my case", so I'm satisfied with two 2Gb partitions now. Thanks a lot!

Always use HDinsttools from here: http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/hdinst
This worked perfectly with my 8GB CF cards.
