Hi to all Amigos!
I have a VCR with two scarts (one input and one output), and a TV tuner for VGA monitor with S-Video (or "Super VHS") input. I connected my Amiga to the input scart with the good ol' Amiga->Scart cable, and the VCR to the S-Video of the tuner with a relevant cable. As much as I tried modifying the settings of the tuner and the VCR, I couldn't get any picture from the Amiga.
I know that I can use the VGA monitor directly and I have the Amiga->VGA adaptor, but if I use an VGA screenmode my modem becomes slow!! 0_0 (I have a 040/25 + PPC/160 and no gfx card). I have been been using ye olde 1084 monitor so far which I want to get rid of, and that's also why I got the tuner (plus I can use the VGA monitor as a TV, now I have my VCR connected to the 1084).
I can not find an Amiga->S-Video cable, as Amiga dealers have disappeared here (Greece) anyway. :O( Unless there is an adaptor for the scart of the Amiga->Scart cable to S-Video...
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

On an old Video Machine that I had with a SCART in and out, the In was just a pass through.
-
"Pass through"? Which means...?
What's weird is that I also have a composite->scart cable and there's no problem!! (by the way, I'm using an A1200) But the picture is blurred and I use my Amiga for useful things rather than games (e.g. Internet)... :O(
-
Pass Through means that the signal going into the "In" goes to the "Out" without being used by the device itself.

HEHEHE!!!
Ok, for bloodline only:
Translation from Greek:
Hello Greece!
So, AmigaRGB -> Scart cable will never work.
You must use Amiga's composite (RCA) output.
The reason is simple: RGB - > Scart cable does not change the video signal, only transferes the RGB signal to Scart plug. VTRs do not support this, only some TV sets do.
If you have any other questions mail me or post here ok? :-)
Ok now bloodline ? ;-)

I have had no problems hooking up my a500, a600 to my vcr using composite/scart. Make sure that you do not connect it to the rgb/aerial output, cause that wont work

Yes, indeed, few VCRs support this. My VCR just gives out a black screen. However I've found out that many modern TV sets with scart-in supports it. How is this scart RGB signal different from the normal scart signal and why doesn't VCRs support it?
rgs,

RGB signal is 3 different signals in one connection:
Red Green and Blues signals are transfered directly to your tv set. So, your TV set MUST be able to accept Red Green abd Blue individual signals.
Composite is a "multiplexed version" of these signals, so it is 100% because ALL tv sets can "demultiplex" this signal.
-
So scart signals from scart units can be composite/rgb?
-
Yes, scart signals can be RGB/composite
Usually, most of the scart pins are used for the sound connection, so I don't think that there is room for another format like YUV on it.

Thanks all for the info! ^_^ So, it seems that I can't do what I had in my mind originally. In this case, would anyone know where I can get an Amiga->S-Video cable? (within Europe)
Animagic, since you live in Greece too, I wouldn't mind getting a mail from you.
Also, if any "furries" (they know who they are!) are reading this, I'd like mails from them too.
Thanks again. ^_^

where I can get an Amiga->S-Video cable
I'm afraid you will have to solder this yourself.
I haven't seen any ami -> s-video cables :(
search the aminet for info.

@Animagic
All Amigas, doesn't supply Y-C sepatared S-Video.
You must use a converter from RGB+Sync>S-Video(Y-C).
Quite all genlocks has YC out also.
Ciao

Yea, I figured that out after a LOOOOOONG search on google...

Gordon Bennett what are you lot piffling on about ?
I did Exactly what he's been trying to do .. For YEARS .
From what your've said it sounds like your've got it right ..SO..
Stop looking for the technical problems and start looking at the obvious....
Got your remote control handy ?
Trying switching between Line 1 / 2 / 3 .. or AV 1 / 2 / 3
I'll stick my neck out and say that little problems now cured !! :-o
:-D

Geia sou Ellada!
I had the same problem with my vcr and my dreamcast...
I found that the 'scart input' signal is only displayed on the tv when the video is on 'off' or rather 'standby' mode.
Just make sure your tv is tuned to the AV channel you normally watch your vcron, then press the power button on your vcr to switch it off and your amiga should now show...
If it doesn't ....well animagic was right....
It took the best part of an hour of cursing (using all the Greek m* words) before I realised! :-)
Good luck ....kai ta leme

Get yourself an A520 modulator and hack it into S-video. Instructions can be found at www.starnet.com.au/davem/amiga.html.
It works very well, although the colours are not as saturated as they could be, this is because of a design error made by Commodore.

First of all, I asuumed that he has a regular PAL VCR with 1 or 2 scart inputs. This means that there is no way that his vcr will support RGB.
I' ve worked with many consumer vcr. Never seen any to support RGB in Greek market :-P
And who the hell is Gordon Bennett ??????? :-?
-
And who the hell is Gordon Bennett ???????
Gordon Bennett is a common phrase used in British English to express surprise or shock, for instance. "Gordon Bennett! look at the size of that".
The phrase is believed to have originated in the 19th century, after a notorious Victorian playboy called James Gordon Bennett, Jr. who became famous for his extravagant lifestyle, and exploits, so much so that his name became stuck in the national language.

i "know something" because video is my job . . . and you are definitaly an idiot . . . .Mr . .
-
Hmm....
Video is your job...
Do you usually work with custom made soldered cables?
Because I don't!
I use only Broadcast Quality equipment mostly approved by EBU.
So, as you can see, I don't have the need for custom made cables that f^ck up the picture quality.
As for who is the idiot in these posts, I usually help people, don't post just to gain points like you little boy!
:roflmao:

@ Animagic
yes i work on telecine gears also and YES, i made myself custom cables, wired remote controllers and so . . .if and when they aren't available on the market.

Ok, after Pmail with Framiga, we think that this conversation has ended .
