Title: Indivision AGA issue
Post by: Amigaz on April 08, 2010, 08:29:30 PM
Just got myself an Indivision AGA A4000/CD32

It installed and works fine with my Samsung 710N 17 inch TFT monitor except that the scrolling in games is jerky.

When I use the SCREENMODE: 1X setting in the config tool the scrolling is smooth but the screen looks odd when I use scanlines ON.

I've fiddled with the vsync rate in the config tool and set it to different ranges..all the way down to circa 45hz but the scrolling jerkyness only get's less frequent

Should I try a different monitor or am I doing something wrong? I thought this SD/FF was fool proof with any TFT/LCD

I didnt know there was a config tool, tbh. can you mention the game(s) you encounter problems with?

I've only tried Pinball Dreams, Pinball Fantasies and Pinball Illusions so far
If I just use the default Indivision settings without using the config tool the scrolling is very jerky in these games

Thanks for the link, I honestly didnt know. Can you try any other games than pinball games? I dont have those 3 games you mentioned, but I do have Slamtilt which also gives some problems when switching to the Multiball (high-res) mode.

I'm going to try some more games but my gut feeling tells me it won't help

Tested Slamtilt now and it has the same jerkyness/low fps too

I have now also tested on a normal CRT monitor and without getting rid of the problem

Is my A4000 (rev D) 030/25mhz somehow incompatible? :P

You are using the latest firmware? Switched off scan-rate conversion (i.e. set it to 1.0)? Still getting problems on a CRT?

All I can think of is it must be a faulty Indivision AGA, perhaps with a broken RAM.

Yep, latest firmware v 1.5

scanrate set to x 1.0 works but then I'm limited to 50hz refresh rate which is quite painful for my eyes on a CRT and on my TFT the picture looks odd with SCANLINES on

Must say I never noticed jerkyness - could it be the monitor itself?

I think this is a case of "Tough! That's just the way it works". Anything other than 1.0 and you're going to get the glitches when horizontally scrolling. Promoting 50Hz to 75Hz (1.5) will minimise it but it will still be visible. I don't think Indivision AGA can do 2.0

Only work around which will work is to keep scanrate set to x1.0 and use WHDLoad to promote the game to 60Hz using the NTSC tool type.

Thanks, alexh

Going to try what you suggest

I guess I'm spoiled with my other SD/FF's (Arxon, DCE, Picasso IV) which apparently needs less fiddling

I wish there was a 2x mode, that would make it the ultimate IMHO.

Using a CRT at 50Hz, I've found that enabling the scanline emulation helps reduce eyestrain somewhat.
