So I am going to eventually look at getting an old stereo or hifi setup for cheap, and connecting my amiga to it. However, my knowledge of electronics is pretty much zero.
So...
can I generally do this with plain old RCA cables, or should I be getting some sort of other cable or adapter?
What are recommendations?
-
Yeah, no secret there - plain RCA L+R from the Amiga to whatever input you'll be using on your amp
-
Put the speakers either side of your chair, it sounds awesome!
-
I recommend this. They make your Amiga sound way more Awesomer!

Might sound silly, but be sure not to use the Mono output if you are doing this on a A500 with a A520 adapter :) (since the mono port aint any fun on a Hifi system)
-
Just make sure you connect it to the aux in, line in, or tape in on the stereo. Anything other than the phono input.

Yeah, a buzzing video signal isn't much fun to listen to. Better connect the mono connector to a black and white monitor instead.

many years ago i fitted a car power amp 25w x2 into my PSU. it worked fantastic. all i had to do was connect the two phone leads into the back of the A500. the PSU fan kept the amp cool at high volume. so one power supply powered eveything except the monitor.
today i still use a car power amp on my PSU 25w x2,but the power amp is now external,so one power supply is still powers everything.
the final part of my project is to fit 25w x2 amp into a A1200 desktop.

I am pretty sure he was talking about the mono AUDIO output on the a520 tv modulator.

There isn't one.

Why would I put a Mono INPUT to a B/W Monitor? Nothing would happen.

Im not talking about any video output.
Im talking about a mono input.
It will do you no good to put any cable from there to your HiFi input.

video modulator
allows TV sets to display Amiga graphics
provides a standard UHF RF output as well as a standard composite video output
three RCA connectors:
RF output
colour composite output
mono audio input - connected to the stereo Amiga output with an Y-cable
channel selector switch
atrocious video quality
PAL and NTSC versions

I think you are missing the point. ;)

I think you are missing the point. ;)
I usually do ;) Tho I think you ment he said Output but it was a Input ;)
Tho Jope said it was a Monocrome video output and it's not :P Or he might have been sarcastic, I got no clue im a bit slow today ;)

I think you need to take another look at the back of an A500...
And at an A520.
And at my quote.

;O Now I have to crawl to the cross, I went over to my A500 and guess what, in my head something went wrong ;) It is a MONO audio input in the A520 BUT it's not labeled MONO, but there is a mono video output on the A500 :P
So I take it all back and next time ill be more careful before using my typing fingers ;)
