Title: Another unknown thing, an A500 busboard ???
Post by: Effy on April 03, 2010, 04:43:45 PM
Look what I found !!!!! A 4 slot busboard with Zorro and ISA slots !!! Tried to insert it in the side expansion of my A500 with kick 2.0 and inserted a scsi card. Computer booted from floppy without problem, the scsi hd on the scsi card started also to spin but somehow I have no access to it. Tried a 1 Mb Ram Zorro card but that also didn't show up in the workbench. Can it be that this thing needs an extra power cable soldered to it in order to work ???
Please correct me if I am wrong, I'm still young and need to learn a lot :)

I do not think so.  Even before looking at the pictures of the Zorro board on BBoAH I recalled a much different configuration than his picture.

My first thought was it is some kind of daughter board until he posted the brand.  Interesting, though.

Sometimes I wish I had played with my Bodega Bay more before it wound up in the dump.

And I would be careful about just plugging things into the expansion slot of the 500 (or any computer, for that matter) all willy-nilly.  Good way to release the magic blue smoke.  That has to stay inside the chips for them to work.

The busboard is actually made of two boards, one that inserts in the A500 slot and the other one with the slots. On one board even the full address is printed :

CompTec
4192 Kalkar 4 (Niedermormter)

I see a bunch of unused solder pads on the right hand side of that thing. Perhaps it needs a good 5vcc going to it? Also, are you sure it's specifically for an A500? With the way the female 86-pin port is mounted in relation to the Zorro's/etc., looks almost better suited for an A1000 or a Bodega Bay type case of some kind anyway.

-edit- Nevermind. That A1000 looking expansion case looks to be exactly what that thing was designed for. How cool! That case is totally awesome. So this was a German expansion product that essentially turned your A500 into a pseudo A1000? Incredible.

You're coming up with quite the oddities lately!

"inserted a  scsi card" you write - you dont write if you inserted a zorro scsi card or an ISA scsi card. An ISA scsi card will not work just like that anyways, you would need a bridge board of some sort to connect it to the "amiga side".

I inserted 2 GVP 2000 HC+8 boards with a working scsi hd on them, the card started spinning when I turned on the A500 so it did get power from the busboard ...
