Whaaaat!
I was thinking of bidding on that too!
Geez, I only got about $300 for my mint A1200 about 6 months ago - ripped off! :-)
Surely a NOS one from the UK would cost less than that INCLUDING shipping?
Mike.
-
That's what I thought too. You did mean "new" I'm sure.
I saw you selling C64(s) too ? Or am I mistaken..?

Aarghhhh !!! 600 Euros for an A1200 HD !!!
The second hand market will probably go up now, at least in Australia! :)
-
Err...
I was thinking on buying an A1200... Err, NO!...
:P
-
It must been the badge they were biddding on.
-
Wow, that's definitely more than I could ever afford for an A1200! I guess because it's a Commodore model and not an Escom one the bidders thought it was rarer to be in such good condition. I won a DKB Cobra accelerator from the same seller last week, he's had heaps of awesome stuff for sale lately.
-
Thank god I live in the UK or I wouldn't be able to afford Amigas!
-
gotta love ebay man

You can buy a new Amiga 1200 (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=40_85&products_id=668) from us for a fraction of the price...

Yes, we know. We all know. All of us. For a very long time.

@Hell Labs
Your just grumpy cos you have 3.0 ROMs and no mouse ;-)
-
$830US... simply amazing! There truly is a pigeon born every second ;-) lol
-
Check the bidding history, I smell a rat. It looks like shill bidding hoping to catch a sucker in the end, which failed.

Say, why does the description of CygnusEd completely lack any mention of ASDG? It was CED's home for years. I edited the CED manual in the birthing room while my daughter was being born. Really.

Surely your giving them away at 200 quid. Would you like mine at 100 each ? 100% profit can't be bad. Its car boot season again, Im sure I can pick up another 10 by christmas. I stuck my nose up at one last week because it didn't have a psu. 10 a penny, there are nearly as common as bread makers.
-
Looks like the UK countyside is riddled with free Amigas....
Should I just fly over there for spring break and rent a car and hit up the local classifieds to scour up Amigas..?
While I'm at it I'll scrape up some frumpy white women... I hear the counrtyside is riddled with them too!

They probably got them for next to nothing anyway, and they've been breaking them for parts and the box (where do you think they get them for the refurbs?). Chances are they've already made the money back a couple of times over. For comparison, a new in box PAL Taiwan Megadrive II (a really rare model, Japanese case but european internals) goes for £20 plus shipping. I'm not too much of a fan of amigakit's buisness model.
-
I can only assume that because of the 'A1200HD/40' name they thought it contained a 68040 accelerator card? Even then it's hellish expensive.

Their business model is the same as any others. Buy low, sell high. Any business that doesn't follow this basic principle doesn't stay in business for very long.
For example Apple's costs for making the iPad are somewhere around $230 according to CNET, and they're selling them for $499.

I wont allow myself to get ripped off like that... Most of my Amiga's came from carboot sales and i hardly paid anything over 5 euro per amiga, best was 2 euro for a complete working a600 and most i paid was 80 euro for an A1200HD Escom model, boxed and including a Blizzard 1230IV with 128mb ram.
-
I should of picked up some Amiga's and other stuff when I was over in the UK in late 2006 and late 2008.
-
Must be one of those "MilSpec" Amigas that I keep hearing about...
-
I got a free A1200 the other day, ok it had yellowed, but a new case and keyboard for around 15 pounds will fix that...
Talking about expensive, what about This? (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4MB-PCMCIA-Amiga-600-1200-SRAM-Fast-Ram-Working-Tested_W0QQitemZ130375476084QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_VintageComputing_RL?hash=item1e5afbe374) Almost as expensive as 4MB of GVP RAM lol

Thats just silly now...just silly stop it. I think we need to start the Arthur Daley Sucker Award for the Most Ridiculous Asking Price for a Not in a millions years is it worth anything Trade.
Its almost as silly as kidnapping 5 year olds in the 2nd most lawless place on the planet and then asking for the Ranson to be handed over in front of a million Gendarmes in the centre of Paris carrying a Placard staying....Over Here I Am the Kidnapper. Man these people are really dumb.
-
Yes but will the seller get his money?
-
Why so much hate for AmigaKit.com? I've had nothing but great experiences with them in the past few years! I think they are a great company!

Not sure I have seen many A1200HD/40s on my travels... More rare I would think than an Amiga 1200 with a 68040 accelerator card. Can't recall how much I paid for mine but I had been looking for ages, and really needed them. Saying that, from checking the info on the auction, doesn`t look much like a collector frenzy. More like a hook, line and copy of the Angling Times.... kind of activity.
Images of my 040's. Plus the card they both came with, and the sexy cover.

So what is Aus dollar to pound, like 10 dollars to the pound.

I lucked out on an A1200HD/40 a few years ago on ebay. $100US + shipping, it arrived in the original box, and the computer itself was absolutely mint - still had the clear wrap over the logo. :-P Popped open the trapdoor and it had an Apollo 1230 + SCSI kit inside.

1 AUD$ = 0.60 pounds at the moment, I've been spending big while the dollar is great at the moment with accelerator card, keyboard adapter, etc.

Guys I don't think Commodore ever did an A1200 pack with any expansion cards. The /40 relates to the larger hard drive you could get preinstalled. IF Commodore had of done an accelerator installed, they would have almost certainly manufactured their own:
The only difference between the A1200 and the A1200HD was the addition of a 2.5" IDE Hard Drive, plus a few extra disks used for hard drive prepping and installation. The standard A1200HD was usually supplied with a 20MB 2.5" IDE Hard Drive, whilst the A1200HD/40 was supplied with a 40MB Hard Drive. For additional information, please see the Commodore A1200.

:roflmao:
As for the /40 comments, 1200 is totally correct, the 1200 was flodded with accelerator cards so soon (almost days after launch apparently) C= didn't even seem to attempt to pitch in. GVP, DCE and Blizzard pretty much had the market sewn up.
Still that's a nice 1200 but one hell of alot of money to pay for that badge really.
Though that doesn't beat my link to a Falcon CDTV game for a cool £10k. Hate to think what that guy was smoking but it certainly isn't on prescription.

The shill bidding scenario looks right on this one. Makes me wonder if a similar thing happened on an ordinary A4000 that went for $1,275 a few weeks ago. It's hard to believe that knowledgeable Amigans would be insane enough to make such ridiculous bids on any unexpanded A1200, considering that I saw one go for $62 USD in the UK very recently. A1200s are much less expensive over there than in the USA. Especially those nice refurbs and NOS units at Amigakit. Short of a towered A1200 on ebay, I think Amigakit will get any A1200 business I have.
