Picasso II ---> VGA to DVI cable ---> DVI to HDMI adaptor ---> LCD TV
Seems like it should work, but i'm sure that would be far too straightforward :)

You can only convert VGA to DVI-Analog, and you can only convert DVI-Digital to HDMI.
Why not just get a LCD with a VGA input?

Yeah I have a cheap one from an old PC. It has a DVI connector on the back, and I use a VGA to DVI cable to connect it to my Picasso.
Thought that if I used a DVI to HDMI adaptor it would work with my big TV. Didn't know there were 2 flavours of DVI.
Ah well.
-
yeah there are actually several different types of dvi. the one that pcs and monitors usually use is dvi-i. that has digital and analog.
the problem here is that there is only one type of hdmi, namely purely digital. dvi to hdmi adapters work because they are the same digital signal minus digital audio on the dvi.
-
The signal is analogue so you can't convert it to digital. A lot of the TVs come with VGA ports you should have checked.
-
Even better: some LCD TV sets have a VGA in and some few accept 15kHz frequency as input.
My current Amiga monitor is a LCD TV. I sold all my CRT monitors, namely a 1084S, A1942 and A1950!
BTW: some of my Amigas are PAL units, some are NTSC. All of them works fine trough the silver VGA dongle. :D

As already stated in the other replies, that wont work.
If you are willing to pay a little more, you could use a VGA to HDMI converter.
http://vgatohdmi.com/VGA-to-HDMI.php ($90)
http://www.cableworld.no/hdmi-tilbehoer/vga-til-hdmi-converter/vga-til-hdmi-converter.asp ($150)
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.29769 (this is only $46 incl shipping, but note that one user have reported sync problems when using 1080p resolutions)
Also if resolution is not the main issue, there are VGA to Video/S-Video adaptors for $30 at dealextreme.
