Title: Mediator 4000 Di and Radeon 9200 - how start radeon
Post by: easy_john on February 28, 2010, 12:34:47 PM
Does anyone successfuly start radeon on Mediator 4000Di on any os?

Few days ago i receive radeon (5v) and mediator from elbox.
Spend two night and two days, but still can't start radeon in any OS!
I little angry right now.

AmigaOS4 instaled: i uncomment "radeon" lines in kickstart boot file, after reboot amiga continously rebooted every 3 seconds, can't enter in early startup.

AmigaOS4 bootCD: first boot from floppy, reboot, boot from floppy and load from CD, reboot and again continously rebooted every 3 second.

AmigaOS3.9: install fresh 3.9, install Picasso96 2.0 from 3.9 CD, find Picasso 2.1 upgrade and install it, (install MUI), install "mediator system files", install "graphic files", rename CV3d to Radeon, change icon info to Radeon, reboot, go to Prefs/P96setup, attach radeon.
At this point all looks like good, but:
- in P96setup "test" or "edit" in any mode - immidiately reboot amiga.
- in prefs/ScreeModes - "test" or "use" in any radeon modes - hang amiga totally, mouse not moving, capslock not changes light.

Is that definitely the correct procedure for installing the Mediator system files and the Radeon card? It might be different for A4000s, but ISTR a very different procedure when installing video drivers on my A1200 Mediator. The guide was on the CD somewhere, and was quite complicated (and time-consuming).

looks like.

here is CD0:Graphics & Fast Ethernet/RadeonGuide file:

Installation Guide

The Radeon.card driver is 100% compatible with the Picasso96 ver.2.1b.

The Picasso96 graphic system ver.2.0 is available from AmigaOS 3.9 CD,
with updates at http://www.picasso96.cogito.de/LatestRelease.html
The newest P96 versions you can find at
http://web.archive.org/web/20040616210354/vgr.com/picasso/

Please install the Picasso96 graphic system following its
documentation. Choose Cybervison 64 3D as the graphic card.

After the Picasso96 installation, start Picasso96 installation
once again and choose the "Update an installed version". Select only
"Monitorsettings" and choose the frequency supported by your monitor.

After successful installation you need to:

1. Find the CVision3D and CVision3D.info in the DEVS:Monitors
drawer, rename these files to Radeon and Radeon.info, respectively.

2. Change in the tool type window of Radeon.icon:
BOARDTYPE = from CVision3D to Radeon.

3. Copy the enclosed Radeon.card driver to the Libs:Picasso96 drawer.

4. Click to the Radeon icon (in Devs:Monitors drawer).

5. Start the Picasso96Mode program (in SYS:Prefs drawer) and select
   Attach setting to Board0: Radeon.
   Exit Picasso96Mode by SAVE.

I try to change pci slot for Radeon - no changes.
pciinfo - show all 3 pci board installed: net, sound, radeon(twice).
net (rtl-8029) work ok in AOS3.9.
sound - I don't check.

Do you have the little hardware device connected to the Radeon that converts it into 5 volt?

If you have a Voodoo 3-4-5 PCI version, maybe try to get that working first?

IMHO Mediator can be very difficult to set up.

yes, it's 5v version from elbox already with power modification.

only 4500, but in first i interesting to run Radeon. I do not plain to use 4500 on amiga. may be 3000, a bit later.
but what wrong with radeon??

there nothing interesting in instruction.
"1. welcome
1.1 hardware features
1.2 system requirement
1.3 package contents
2.1 Jumpers
2.2 How to set jumpers
3.1 hardware installation
3.2 before you begin
3.3 installing mediator
4.1 installing driver
4.2 installing mediator drivers
registration
support"

only one, that say instructions about installing software: "boot amiga, install cd, run install script".

and all info about installing radeon is in one readme in graphics drawler, i already post this file before.

you should comment PCIGraphics.card, radeon.chip and 3dfx.chip (or whatever way it's called)

You have to comment PCIGraphics.card too so OS4 will allow you to use original Elbox pci.library and drivers.

Ок, i comment all this modules in kernel.
What is next step?
I try to install like in 3.9 "mediator drivers" and "video dirvers", and then update it to latest, but still can't see radeon in ScreenMode or Picasso96Mode.

@easy_john

In my testing Radeon does NOT WORK on OS 4.0 in the Amiga 4000 configuration.

Some A1200 users have got it to work, but they have Zorro 2 only.

If you are able to get it to work on OS 4.0 classic then I would be interested to know.

I have tried many times myself (with OS 4.0) to get the Radeon to work on the Zorro-3 based Amiga 4000, but so far no luck.

OS 3.9 it works, though, as you have found out :)
