Title: Paula vs MiniMig

Is there a distinct difference between how the two sound? As a musician, would I loose a certain something while using OcataMED Sound Studio?

Minimig uses a 1bit sigmadelta DAC, like most modern audio devices... The Amiga used a bank of 8 resistors. The sigmadelta DAC is very accurate, the bank of resistors varies its output depending upon manufacturing flaws, voltage drift of the power supply, age of the hardware and temperature... I'd say the Amiga would give a more distinctive sound... But now I prefer to use a bitcrusher, modulator and EQ which have been setup to give me something that sounds like the Amiga to my
ears (but not having to power of the old machines) :)

I thought most music quality audio products still use monolithic analog audio dacs... don't they?

I thought that implementing a DAC using a sigmadelta modulator was a pin/cost saving exercise?

Good question, you are closer to the semiconductor industry than me
so you might know better, but in the audio devices that I've looked into the datasheets, they all use sigmadelta with stupidly high frequency bit rates... My standard audio interface can output at "24bit, 192Khz"... I don't know if any other type of DAC could handle that sort of rate...

I think you might be right... the more I look. The more I find which are sigma-delta (or should that be delta-sigma) modulators
