Post by: sturulez on February 24, 2010, 08:25:32 AM
Hi there, im new here and what a great site i have to say!
My question is can i download files from a PC and then transfer them onto cd and then open them on a Amiga CD-rom??

Im tring to downlod the new version of WHDLoad and it wont fit onto 720kb floppy disk and is a little large.. so i thought cd might be an option

Thanks.

I did my transfers with a null modem cable and BBS software. I'm pretty certain CD-Rom formats are the same. Is your Amiga CD-Rom set up, do you need the drivers?

Hey sturulez, If you can use any CD on your PC, all you need is a program to burn CD's. There's freeware options, just tonight I'm using CDBurnerXP to burn CD's for a friend. But you could use, e.g. Nero, Roxio, etc.... I'd suggest that you just have the program burn the needed files, don't mess with the various options unless you need to. IME, Amiga's are fairly tolerant of various CD formats... It also depends on what CD filesystem you are using on the Amiga.... I've used AsimCDFS 3.x +, and CacheCDFS (from OS 3.9) extensively on my 1200T, and have had only very minor problems.... mostly regarding long filenames... but that's another can of worms.....

Heck, I can burn CD's on my Linux machine and read 'em on my miggy....  Just try burning a CD on yer PC, and try it on your miggy.....

Shouldn't matter. If you can burn CDs on your PC, you can read them on your Amiga. Just remember to stick to a low burn speed (depending on how old your Amiga's drive is) and stay away from Joliet.
