I came across this nugget today. Not sure if this was ever revealed before:
"The exec also revealed that in 1987, he tried to buy Commodore in association with a hedge fund partner. He believed that taking the Amiga 500 and removing the keyboard and mouse would create a dedicated video game console that "would have eclipsed anything being sold at the time" -- even Nintendo's NES. Although it didn't work out, it made Kotick passionate about building a video game company."

I guess that might have been nice for gamers, but me thinks it would have created an even bleaker future for Amiga users.

EDIT: Why does Amiga.org not let me say CDTV in capitals?
Bloody new owners

I suppose the difference would have been marketing.
It probably would have been solely a games machine in that case, not a Video appliance that also plays games.
And probably wouldn't have cost as much, trying to target the NES audience.
Interesting.

Even stranger that it apparently did in your edit
Bloody new owners
Much more likely to be some odd post content setting buried in vbulletin somewhere.

It's probably a banned word (for good reason).

Don't let Tone007 hear that, we don't want him white knighting that bloody thing in here as well.
